Sunfish Lake Boulevard Interchange Temporary Closure

Sunfish Lake Boulevard interchange, between McKinley Street and Riverdale Drive, will be closed from Friday, May 29, at 8:00 p.m. to Monday, June 1, at 5:00 a.m. This includes both the north and south roundabouts on Sunfish, eastbound and westbound Highway 10 entrance and exit ramps, and north Frontage Road (i.e., traffic will not be able to use any leg of the roundabouts at Sunfish Lake Boulevard).

This small, family-run store has carved out a unique niche, offering a treasure trove of fun with everything from radio-controlled (RC) cars, trucks, boats, helicopters, and airplanes to kites, model rockets, wooden puzzles and toys. Whether you’re a seasoned hobbyist or a curious newcomer, King Kong Hobbies has something for everyone.

Owner Doug Lewis acquired the business, based in Wyoming, MN, in 2007. In August 2019, he relocated the store to Ramsey, driven by the desire for a more visible and accessible location. Housed in a cozy 2,200-square-foot space at 6415 Highway 10 NW, Suite 110, the store is staffed by Lewis and his team of three employees, all passionate RC enthusiasts who can often be spotted flying planes and helicopters at local fields and parks in their off-hours.

The store features top-tier brands such as Traxxas RC models and is a go-to destination for in-house sales and servicing. Beyond RC offerings, customers can explore an impressive selection of plastic models, including Gundam, Pokémon and Warhammer.

A milestone for Lewis came in 2019, when the business became debt-free, unlocking new opportunities and making it easier to introduce new product lines. Lewis attributes his success to adaptability, emphasizing the importance of staying responsive to customer needs. He’s also not afraid to explore new ideas and try new things.

While King Kong Hobbies has built a standout selection of RC vehicles, Lewis is eager to highlight the store’s other offerings. “Kite season is here!” he enthuses, inviting customers to explore departments beyond the RC realm.
