I cut the burl into some bowl blanks yesterday! The wood had some rot but I managed to get some beautifully grained blanks! Unfortunately, the wood is still green (wet) so I will most likely let it dry for a bit before turning them into bowls. I believe the tree was some type of Oak. This is like a treasure hunt!

Received this Burl from a friend who found it in Maine. I can't wait to see what beauty lays within! Burls are known for either yielding exquisite, unique grain patterns or a lot of rot! No way of knowing until I begin to (hopefully) transform this huge piece of broccoli looking wood into some very cool one of a kind bowls. I will do my best to post during the transformational journey from Burl to Bowl. The first Three pics have objects in them for scale so you can see the size of this beast!! VERY EXCITING!!
