We made it to Paris and picked up our little van and drove to Beaune for the night. We had a fantastic dinner. Duffy had sea bass and I had rognons (veal kidneys). Delicious! We had an issue with tires on the van but that’s all fixed and we made it to Lyon this morning where I started shopping. Found the oil painting of flowers by Joseph Hurand (1887-1956)at one of my favorite shops. The mechanical ice tongs, spoon, coasters and geese spoons are from Marilyn’s Antiques (thats Marilyn in her shop!)

A few new items this week. Paring down our buying since we leave on our France buying trip in September. I couldn’t resist the charming copper coffee/tea pot with brass fleur de lis adornment. The antique copper glue pot with 3 iron legs and handle makes a cute vase or planter. The cast iron cow weathervane is a must for any farmhouse.

Mostly French has some unusual new items. A beautiful, large Impressionist oil painting of the Paris Opera House (Place de l’Opera) and a small oil painting by Gabriel Spat (Promenade Au Bois). As an impoverished art student in Paris, Spat was forced to use canvas scraps from other artists. Thus he learned to paint in miniature. The French chef marionette has a hand painted porcelain face that makes me smile. The artist palette was used by an artist friend.

Just did some research on this lamp. It is made from a rare “conscience jar”. These jars are from the Provence area and used by the priests to collect donations of olive oil intended for the poor. The donor’s conscience was then blessed.
