You saw her in the Castle first, but you can see her work currently in the lobby of the Wilson! (Most of her work that is. Her most unusual works will remain on display at the Castle for now. Rachel Lukehart began painting only a year ago to vent her worries over her son who was deployed in a high risk area of the Middle East. Just as diamonds form from carbon through heat and high pressure, so also does stress and pain often create the greatest artists. Rachel‘s stratospheric rise in popularity is not surprising to us, but it is exciting for those of you who purchased your paintings here, as the price of these has gone up considerably.

Thrift T‘s in the Castle is located at 500 E. Coolbaugh Street in Beautiful Historic Red Oak Iowa and is open from 10 to 7, 7 days a week. We are 45 minutes E. of Omaha, 2 hours W. of Des Moines, and 2 1/2 hours N of Kansas City.

Today in Red Oak if you start at the town Square, you can visit the Neighborhood Bakehouse— who only uses ancient grains to bake all of their delicious baked goods, Agora Coffehouse—where you may purchase a latte made only of the finest ingredients, Kurt Wayne comics who hold an amazing collection of rare and vintage comics, Thrift-T’s in the Castle— that’s us a charity thrift shop focusing focused on teaching, personal responsibility, organizational skills, up cycling, music, and art, to youth is happening inside a 19th century fortress, and as a bonus, walk up and turn the corner and go to Second Chance— another charity thrift shop on the ground floor of the Methodist Church run almost entirely by grandmas.

We are open today! For Labor Day, you can fill up a normal store size grocery sack with clothes shoes and books for  the unbelievably low price of $10. It’s also a good day to draw paint play games (including chess), sew, embroider, up cycle, fix things, and socialize. We are about 45 minutes east of Omaha.

Attention artists, crafters, quilters, those who sew, paint, draw, musicians etc. We do these things in the store on Sundays. Let us know when you might be dropping by and we will can coordinate like activities. We can upcycle anything in the store which will still be open as usual. Thrift T‘s at the Castle as part of our skill sharing program is proud to add EMBROIDERY to the list. Skill shares are best done on Sundays, and are subject to availability. Our other skill shares include: acrylic painting, beginner, piano playing, permaculture gardening, lamp, and furniture repair, with more skills coming soon. Thanks to Julie Wagner of.The Bee & The Butterfly for the embroidery machine, and thread and Kent LeRette for learning how to, and then teaching the volunteers how to use it.

It’s Friday in Red Oak! Where there are always some exciting things going on on Coolbaugh Street. Go pick up delicious sandwich, bread, cruffuns (croissant x muffins) focaccias and more at Neighborhood Bakehouse, grab a latte at Agora Coffehouse, stop at Kurt Wayne comics and ask about their FREE ART CLASSES, do some thrift shopping at the Castle, and continue on to Second Chance at 6Th & Hammond Methodist Church!
