It's one of the most exciting times of year for birdwatching: fall migration! 🪶
While fall migration can start as early as July depending on the species and location, September and October are the peak migration months for our region. Millions of birds covering hundreds of different species will cross our state on their flight paths, whether Nevada is their final stop for the season or not. Birds can pack on up to 60% of their body weight in preparation for migration, and this needs to be protein and fat in order for them to have the calories they need to make these journeys. That's where you and your backyard feeders come in! Providing a range of foods will in turn give you the widest range of birds, so if you're already offering bird food, consider adding another type to catch unique migratory visitors while you can. After all, many of these birds you may only see for a day or two before they vanish into the night until next year!
