🛑 Shop is CLOSED on Tuesday, Oct 6, because this is the current state of affairs!

🔃🔀🔄🔁 We’re in hot mess rearrange mode! Last year’s ski boots are getting pulled out from hiding under the pants all summer, all boats are off the walls and onto the ceiling, and the shelf wall is officially up! Now we need to make it nice nice, so give us an extra day to get the shop in tip top shape.

See ya Wednesday, October 7! Thanks for your patience as we struggle bus it for the next 24 hours!

📍 Direct impact. No airplanes were fueled with the money you spent at Reno’s Only Used Outdoor Gear & Tech Apparel Consignment Shop this month.

It got folks to the trailhead with a full tank of gas. It paid rent and mortgages. It filled fridges. It paid off school loans. It treated folks to coffee dates and froyo. It paid for race entries. It paid electricity and trash bills. And maybe some of it went back into the shop as store credit, letting folks snag a new bike or boat or tent.

Yea. It’s not thrift. But the impact of consignment is so much bigger for SO many people in community, not just a small business. And most importantly, not some big CEO ✈️.

Were you one of the people who made money last month? Did you sell with us? Did you rehome gear, making the outdoors more accessible? Thank you 🤗. For the trust. For the love. For the support. 🙏

🤷‍♀️ How do you know so much? VC University (Visitor Center). They’re amazing resources that connect you to stories, history and learning.

Don’t sleep on learning about the places you play. From the Kootzaduka’a Tribe, a band of the Northern Paiute to the Sierra Bighorn who’s population has recovered from only 100 sheep in the 1990s to the geology of tufa creation, the Mono Lake Visitor Center is always worth the stop.

It makes it that much more exciting when you see and recognize geology, plants and pieces of history out while exploring.

We ALWAYS set aside time for visitor centers! Plus, they usually have solid bathrooms 👌.

Yooo! Shop updates in video form!

1) thank you for our most successful end of season summer sale! Thank you for making sure no boats ended up in our backyard!

2) we’re packing things up, bringing things out. Public winter consignment opens Oct 14.

3) we’ll be CLOSED next week Monday AND Tuesday to physically transition the shop space! (Oct 5/6). All of last seasons ski boots will be on the wall at mega prices (so we can move em to make room for this years incoming consignment)

🍂 Transition season = New racks and areas out on the daily as we’re slowly clearing out of summer gear. We’re making room for mid-layers like fleeces and flannels! But it also means that staff is confused on the daily 😅 give us a moment!

❄️ Winter intake starts Oct 14! We are not yet accepting heavy duty outerwear or snow hardgoods yet!

🏆 We’ve officially hit 10 years of living in Reno, where’s our “locals card” at? (I mean, we created a Nevada native, that counts for something right?)

It’s wild to think that when we originally pulled through town, our original plan was to just be here for 1 year, and then to bounce around for 1 year stints in other “outdoorsy cities”.

But we fell in love with the endless access, vistas and the people… we bought a house, started the shop, and have now been a staple in the community for 8 years strong.

Thank you to Reno for welcoming us, encouraging us to stay, and we hope that what we’ve built at Gear Hut is one of the reasons you fall in love with Reno too. 💕
