Candies for a Cause first began out of love for my granddaughter shortly after she was born in June of 2024, with a cleft lip and palate. As we began navigating the journey ahead appointments, specialists, appliances, surgeries, and the many unknowns, I wanted to find a way to help support her care and the path that lay ahead.

That desire led me to start Candies for a Cause as a small way to raise funds to help support the expenses associated with her journey.

What started as a personal effort quickly revealed something much bigger. As we searched for guidance, resources, and support within our local community, we discovered there were very few organizations or support networks available for families navigating cleft lip and palate here in Northern Nevada.

In 2025, that realization led to the decision to formally incorporate our nonprofit foundation with a larger vision in mind.

Our purpose is simple but powerful:
to build a strong, confident cleft community where families and individuals feel seen, heard and supported on their journey.

Through our foundation, we aim to:

• Provide connection and community for individuals and families affected by cleft lip and palate
• Share trusted resources and guidance to help families navigate the journey
• Help fill financial gaps for dental appliances, procedures, and surgeries that insurance often does not fully cover
• Provide supplies and support for families preparing for surgeries and treatment
• Create opportunities for connection, encouragement, and lifelong community

What began with one little girl has grown into a mission to support many families walking a similar path.

My dream is to build a supportive and confident cleft community—one where families feel seen, supported, and empowered throughout every stage of the journey.
