Spa Day Secrets: Basic Care & Maintenance for Mechanical Machines - September 21, 2026, 10:00 a.m.
Your sewing machine works hard for you — stitch after stitch, project after project. It's time to return the favor.
In this hands-on workshop, Idaho Sewing Center invites owners of older, all-mechanical sewing machines to learn the same care techniques we use during our professional Machine Spa Day servicing — so you can keep your machine running beautifully between visits, or simply understand it better.
This class is designed to be approachable for every skill level — no mechanical or repair experience is necessary. Whether you've had your machine for decades or just inherited one from a family member, you'll leave with practical, confidence-building skills and a deeper understanding of how your machine works.
What You'll Learn:
How to safely remove and replace machine covers
Full interior cleaning and lint removal
Proper oiling techniques and lubrication points
Basic mechanical adjustments
How to check and understand hook timing
What's Included:
Every student receives a dedicated workspace mat for the class and a take-home tool kit featuring screwdrivers, a lint brush, pipe cleaners, sewing machine oil, cotton swabs, lint-free cloths, tweezers, a travel spray bottle, a syringe with grease, and a printed reference card to guide future maintenance at home.
What to Bring:
Please bring your own older, all-mechanical sewing machine. This class is designed specifically for mechanical machines — computerized and electronic models are not covered in this session.
Before class, you'll be asked to complete a short survey with your machine's make, model, and serial number so we can be fully prepared to support you.
