Happy Pioneer Day Eve! Or as we like to call it, "Pyro Post 5 Day!"

Parachute fireworks! What's there to say? For many countless boys and girls (and heck, even some grown-ups!) across the nation, these are the *coolest* and most fun items you can find at a firework tent. I can't say they're wrong to think that way, either! How many more fireworks give you a toy to play with afterwards? This Pyro Post isn't going to hit you with mad chemistry or physics this time around because the parachute firework kinda speaks for itself! Swing on by the tent today and check out our fireworks with "replay value!"

PYRO 👏 POST 👏 FOUR

Why are fireworks so cool? There are a lot of correct answers to that one, but I'd have to put this at the top of the list: fireworks are the closest thing we've got to actual, honest-to-goodness magic. Have you ever seen an aerial shell with an effect so unique you couldn't even begin to guess how it worked? If you've ever seen a "Flying Fish" effect, I'm sure you know the feeling well.

The Flying Fish effect is so unique because unlike most aerial shells, it doesn't need a big thumpy explosion to throw stars everywhere. In fact, that's one of the biggest plus sides to Flying Fish- they're really really quiet! This effect relies more on the ability of the "fish" themselves to zip around of their own volition. How do they do that? The answer might ruin a bit of the magic but it is really cool none the less. The "fish" in Flying Fish are little segments of fast-burning fuse! The shell is essentially just a little bundle of fuses stuffed into a cardboard cylinder with a teeny burst charge at one end, just enough to get the ends of the fuses lit and spit them out. With one end of each fuse segment burning, they are pushed around spastically like they've got fishy little minds of their own.

If you think that's neat, guess what! You can find Flying Fish fireworks at the tent between now and the 24th! I personally recommend Crazy Like A Fox by Bright Star Fireworks, one of the coolest 200gr cakes of all time!

Could it be? The Pyro Post 3 spoken of in legends and folklore?? Yeah sure, why not.

Ground Bloom Flowers fill such a unique role in fireworks culture. Pretty much every casual enjoyer of fireworks knows them by name, and can describe in surprising detail how they preform (I've seen many moms and dads as well as young children do the little "spinny" thing with one hand while making a buzzing sound in order to help us know what firework they're looking for- lol!). At the same time, there are some absolutely unhinged dudes that will buy the biggest, meanest aerial cakes they can find but know their evening isn't complete without a few packages of ground blooms to pass the time. There's just something so charming about the gentle hum and fiery rose of a nice ground bloom flower!

How do they work, though? Well, their construction is pretty simple really and it becomes more of a physics question than a chemistry question. Ground Bloom Flowers are basically just lil' rocket motors, except the thrust is directed through a hole in the side rather than one of the ends. They spin and dance around due to two principles of physics- ground effect, and gyroscopic precession. Ground effect is the force affecting the ground bloom when its thrust is directed toward the ground, which provides a lot more resistance than the rest of the air around it. That force keeps the thrust-end of the ground bloom higher off the ground than the opposite end. Gyroscopic precession basically creates an axis for the ground bloom to spin around based on rotational velocity and other nerd nonsense. Physics, yo!
What's the most important takeaway, you ask? Well, we've got plenty of ground blooms at the tent and they all rock. We've got tiny ones (jumping jacks), normal ones, big ol' thick ones, we've even got fountains that spit them out! Swing on by today and indulge in the Ground Bloom Grandeur!

Ground Bloom Flowers has 20 pieces. Each item spins rapidly on the ground making a flower of fire. This is a fan favorite!https://usfireworks.biz/items/ox1000-...

Pyro Post day 2! (You didn't think we'd forget, did you??)

Fireworks aren't just magical, they're downright mythical. In fact, some of the most common stars or effects in a firework are sometimes referred to as "Dragon's Eggs!" If that's a new term for you, it may be because you know the effect better as crackle, or crackling. Fundamentally, Dragon's Eggs or crackling stars are a fuel metal (Lead tetroxide was used historically, but we've moved away from that for.... obvious reasons) rolled into small pellets or pressed into stars. When Dragon's Eggs are ignited, they burn slowly for a moment while they form pockets of molten metal and gas. Once the pressure becomes too much to handle, they explode with a tiny, signature "POP!" (That pop may be gas escaping at super-sonic velocity, meaning those tiny little crackles are actually detonating. Kinda crazy tbh!)

Is all this Dragon's Eggs nonsense making you crackle-crazy? We've got just the fix for you! Swing on by the tent and grab some Black Cat Ground Mines! These sketchy-looking little goobers wrote the book on copious crackle, and the price for a pack of 4 is unbeatable!

Pioneer Day is just around the corner, come visit us on 2nd E. and Stationery to stock up on celebration essentials! As always, look for the big ol' gorilla and you'll know you're in the right neighborhood!

And for you True Pyros out there- tune in to this page each day until the 24th for some pyrotechnics trivia and the inside scoop on "what's hot" at the tent! For today's Pyro Post, we're wild about willows! Did you know the beautiful glittery-gold trails of a willow star come from charcoal which has been soaked through with an oxidizer, such as potassium nitrate? What's even more fascinating is that we've got an amazingly affordable 200 gram cake at the tent that's packed to to the gills with 7 shots of willow wonder! It's called Nishiki Perfection from Machine Made Pyro, and you'd better come grab one today because they'll be gone faster than you can say "what the heck is a nishiki?!"
