Don't call it a junk drawer. 🙅🏻‍♀️

What we label a space matters—calling it a "junk drawer" instantly gives it permission to collect junk. Instead, give it an intentional name. We call ours the "convenience drawer," while some clients prefer "utility drawer." The idea is that every item inside is frequently used and deserves easy access in the kitchen. What we keep here evolves over time, but the purpose remains the same: curated, daily tools within reach.

I'm featured in Virginia Tech's spring magazine!

With the arrival of spring, many Hokies may feel the urge to clear out clutter. For Kristen Ziegler ’06, that instinct formed the foundation for a Richmond-based business, Minima.

Last night, the Minima team gathered to celebrate Alex's incredible ten-year milestone with the company. When I first started Minima, I never thought I would hire anyone, but I struck gold with my first employee; Alex started as an Organizing Assistant in 2016, worked her way up to Project Manager, and is now the first person most Richmond clients meet.

She has laid the foundation for our warm, collaborative team. Kind, direct, and incredibly hardworking, Alex is the glue of Minima—both our clients and staff love her. I am endlessly grateful for her decade of leadership with heart. Please join me in wishing Alex a very happy ten-year Minima-versary! 🎉🥳🎊

I recently joined the Healthified podcast to discuss how decluttering impacts nervous system regulation. If your environment feels like it's keeping you in "fight or flight," this conversation offers a path toward ease.

In contrast to my polished Google Calendar and Tasks, this is my analog to-do list, which I call my field note.

I use this thin sheet (c/o MUJI USA) to catch the two-minute tasks that don't need a home on my calendar and the mid-flow ideas that are barely formed—the ones I need to capture now and flesh out later without losing my momentum. It acts as a physical buffer, protecting my digital systems from unnecessary noise.

Each item follows a simple trajectory: it's either crossed off within a day or two or, if more complex, incorporated into my Google Calendar and Tasks.

I'm curious—does anyone else use a specific brand of paper or a notebook as a digital buffer?
