It’s hard to believe it’s been 25 years. So many people living today have no memory of that day at all because they weren’t yet born. For those of us who do remember, we recall every detail - where we were when we learned of the attacks, checking in with family and friends, worrying about the fate of so many people in the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and those doomed planes. We remember how important television and radio news were to us (no Smartphones yet) as we sought answers to what had happened and why. We remember the Canadians who welcomed more than 30,000 passengers on 255 planes forced to land that day. And we remember and mourn the 3,000 people from 102 countries who lost their lives on that terrible day.

You all know that we’re always thrilled when authors stop by the store unexpectedly, and in the past week we’ve had two! Last week, Sofia Montrone Sofia Montrone came by and signed copies of her debut novel, Nymph, published by Simon & Schuster in August. This weekend, Sam Roberts, the obituary reporter for the The New York Times stopped in and talked to us about obituary writing (we’re fans of great obits!). Sam’s new book, Are They Dead Yet? was published by in August! He even personally inscribed a copy for a customer who had pre-ordered one. We have signed copies of both books in the store.

We lost a great musician, singer, actress, humanitarian, songwriter and author today. She believed so much in the power of books to change lives that in 1995 she founded The Imagination Library in in honor of her father who never learned to read or write. Her organization has donated more than 300,000,000 books to children in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia and Ireland.

We all need to be more Dolly.

Honoring the life and legacy of Dolly Parton, global icon, humanitarian, and beloved entertainer who inspired generations with her music and kindness.
