¿Sabías que los antiguos mexicas hablaban así a una mujer después de dar a luz? 🌿

No la llamaban débil. La llamaban guerrera.

Nochpiltzin, notlazohtzin cihuātl
Hija mía, mujer muy amada.

Ticuāuhyotl, ticōcoyotl
Has sido águila, has sido jaguar.

Ticchīuh in yaōtl
Has librado la batalla.

Ticnēnemi in tlālli īhuān in mictlān
Has caminado entre la tierra y la muerte.

Para los mexicas, parir no era algo cotidiano. Era enfrentarse a un momento peligroso, entrar en ese límite entre vivir y morir… y regresar.

Ticnēnemi quēmah in tōnantzin Cihuacóatl, Quilaztli
Has imitado a nuestra madre Cihuacóatl.

In cihuātl yaōtl, in tēyōlīa
Mujer guerrera, dadora de vida.

In Tōtecuiyo mitztemōlli
Nuestro Señor te ha mirado.

Mitzīca in icpalli, in tēuctli yaōtl
Y te ha colocado entre los valientes.

Ximoyōlli, xicmocēhuia
Descansa ahora tu corazón.

Ca ticchīuh in huel tequitl
Has cumplido una gran obra.

In yolia tlācatl, in quetzalli, in chalchihuitl
La vida que trajiste, joya preciosa.

Ōmpa mitzcuīca
Da testimonio de tu valor.

Así honraban a las madres: no como figuras frágiles, sino como mujeres que habían enfrentado la muerte… y regresado con vida en los brazos.

Hamilton Medical Center (HMC) is inviting community members to participate in CultureFest today Thursday, June 11 from 1 to 5 p.m.
at the lower level of the Hamilton parking deck on the corner of Broadrick Drive and Memorial Drive.

CultureFest is a day of celebration, education and unity to embrace the event’s theme of “The Color of Inclusive Care.” It is dedicated to acknowledging barriers to health equity, celebrating cultures and fostering inclusive care for all. The festival will bring together healthcare professionals, local organizations and community members to promote quality care and access to care within reasonable time frames.

The event will feature:

• Vendors that highlight the rich traditions and perspectives of different cultures
• Inclusive care information – healthcare professionals, local advocacy groups and community partners hosting interactive booths to share resources and education
• Food trucks featuring international and cultural cuisines (for purchase), reflecting the diverse backgrounds of the community.

We hope you’ll join us as we celebrate our unique differences and our various healthcare needs and provide information on healthcare services and advocacy programs in our community,” said Star Lackey, Inclusive Care and Patient Relations manager
