He drove to the home of JD and Kate,
Right on the dot—not a minute late.
He sipped ginger ale with a confident grin,
Then said, "Your compressor's worn out within."
"It might be repaired, though I really must say,
A brand-new system is likely the way.
Seventeen thousand—that's all it will be;
Sign on the line, and just trust me."
JD looked at Kate and quietly said,
"Something feels wrong with what's just been said.
Let's call American Appliance today,
And see what the truth has to say."
A capacitor changed was all that was needed,
The system sprang back just as expected.
The homeowner smiled with relief and delight:
"It's cooling the house, and it's running just right!"
"It should serve you well for a few years more;
Then replace it when it's needed for sure.
And if the compressor should finally fail,
About seventy-four hundred would finish the tale."
So remember this lesson wherever you are:
Truth shines brighter than fortune or char.
The honest and dishonest will someday stand,
Before the Great Judgment Bar by God's own hand.
