I fell in love with the idea of painting this contemporary subject with the rising morning sun behind her. I had so much fun detailing the Nike shoes, finessing the folds of fabric on the pants and giving texture to the socks. My process is a very labor intensive one- including adding multiple layers of oil paint with glazes, and building up the surface to the point where I can finally call it finished.

I am so thrilled that my oil painting Sheer Affair was chosen to be exhibited at The Great Northern Art Explosion this weekend in Grayling along with 98 other artists! We are looking forward to driving up this weekend to Au Sable Artisan Village to see the art exhibit and experience live music, the artist reception and awards ceremony🎉🎉.

A recent still life I painted. It took many, many glazes to achieve the red saturation in the tea pot. I have not shared in quite awhile because we are in the middle of buying and selling a house and most of my art studio is packed up! I wanted to share this oil painting I recently completed of my daughter. I took this photo of her gazing out her (rainy) window at dusk and knew I had to paint it. I felt it perfectly represented the hours and hours she spent in her room this past year in isolation- doing school virtually and watching the world through her window. This past year has been HARD and someday I want us to look back on this painting and remember the hard times, but also remember we grew stronger and more resilient as a family❤️!
