📝Here’s a trick if you are helping your parent(s) or a friend or loved one go through their items to donate/sell whether needing to move, downsize, or just lighten the load…
Remember it’s easier on you because you don’t have any emotional attachment to this stuff but they do.
So a trick that I do at every house visit when someone isn’t sure is I have them tell me about it - where they wore the top? Their favorite meal they loved to cook in the pot…let them talk and share the memories and just get that out. Reminisce…🥰 (to you it may look like a beat up heavily used pan or overly worn out top - but that’s not the case to them)
Often times it’s not the thing itself they are struggling to let go of - it’s the connection to those memories. That’s the part they don’t want to lose.
I often find myself laughing and crying with my consignors as they share their memories with me. I’m grateful to help be the bridge to help families in this very difficult time.
Honestly, the downsizing/right sizing/estate emptying doesn’t take much skill but more so patience and empathy & knowledge of where to go with the stuff to get the most money with the less hassle, TIME & muscle and trucks to move all the things! (My team helps with all of that.) 😉
I know time isn’t something many have in this situation but allowing the loved one who is attached the most talk through some memories will make a difference and lighten the tension with all involved. Trust me on this. Get them sharing memories and just talking about some of them with get them in a place where they will physically be able to let go of the object. It works like magic. It lightens the tension so much.
Now, if you’re a family with lots of members and struggling to agree about what to do - this is also my specialty. I walk thru and give my opinion if traditional estate sale, auction or consigning is best & give you all the options. I can tell you what the market is bringing on certain items. I’m honest even if someone says it’s going for more on eBay doesn’t mean you will actually get that on eBay. 😉 I’ve had lots of practice in this area and have found that it’s my special skill - mediating families about all the stuff. 🤑
My house visits don’t cost you anything but your time. However, there is a waiting list. If you may be interested in these services, don’t hesitate to call us and get a house visit scheduled. **If you sell your home with us you also get a much higher consignment rate making you even more money. Win win.
No matter what your situation is - my team and I are thrilled to help you. We have so many strong bonds and friendships with the families we’ve helped so far and I know without a doubt this is why I was put on this earth.
