Flowers// the art of letting go

Gardening has a way of helping you to better accept what is out of your control. There is no pause button to an end of a season. All the gifts have been given. For dahlias though, the gift of their tubers is such a special one. It provides instant hope for the next season, instant dreaming. I’m always baffled how one day I’m completely over the season, accepting of the end. Then the next day I’m digging tubers and dreaming of flower filled days again.

Final on site wedding today and possibly a frost tonight, bittersweet how the timing has been this year. With every passing year, I savor it all a little more. Watching my kids grow with every season, them changing just as the flowers are shifting, it hits all the feelings. Time is a gift, nature is a gift, and the flowers are a gift. I try not to forget that even on the hard days. I hope you all spent some extra time with your gardens (looking at you, dahlias) before they leave us until next year 🍂

I wish I had a count of how many dahlias we have cut at Flowerwell this year. All I know is the number is high, and cutting every stem was absolutely delightful

Holding on to the memory of a field full of dahlias, so grateful for a better crop this year than last. They truly are the queens of fall
