Bark and Books

Bark and Books Welcome to Bark and Books, a heartfelt book series inspired by the real-life journeys of rescue dogs from Small But Mighty Rescue in Campobello, SC.

Our mission is to teach kidness and responsible pet care. All sales support Small But Mighty Dog Rescue. Kristen Lieber and co-author Liz Skomra, owners of Bark and Books LLC, combine their love for dogs and storytelling to create heartwarming children’s books that teach kindness, compassion, and responsible pet care. Kristen and Liz have fostered over 500 dogs over the past several years and work closely with Small But Mighty Rescue, where Liz is the founder. This is where all of their stories find inspiration.

Not all shelter dogs get this ending…
but Oakley and Selma did.

Oakley our gentle soul from Oakley’s Gentle Heart
and Selma, a senior who deserved so much more time than she was given…

Both once sat in a shelter, waiting.
Waiting for someone to see them.
Waiting for their second chance.

Today, they’re living the life every dog deserves
soft beds, sunshine, and someone who chose them.

Tomorrow is National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day.
If you’ve ever thought about it… this is your sign.

Because somewhere right now,
there’s a dog just like Oakley.
Just like Selma.

Still waiting.

Drop the name of your shelter or rescue dog in the comments ❤️

Meet TinkerBell

Tinker Bell is a 10-year-young, 6½-pound Chihuahua who made her way from Puerto Rico this past December. After losing her beloved person, she’s now looking for a quiet, loving home to spend her golden years.

She’s incredibly calm and low-key—happy with a soft bed, a little sunshine, and someone to love. Tinker Bell gets along with dogs and cats, but would also be perfectly content as your one and only.

Senior dogs just hit different 💛 If you’ve read Bonnie’s Golden Rescue, you know how special this stage of life is—and how much love they still have to give.

Tinker Bell is with Small But Mighty Rescue and ready for her next chapter. If you’ve been thinking about opening your heart to a senior, this little girl is something truly special.

Good Dogs. Local Pours. Great Cause.

Come see Bark and Books Sunday afternoon designed for the pack.

On Sunday, April 19, 2026, Purpose CLT and Paw Social Club are taking over the Monday Night Brewing Garden Co. for a relaxed, pup-friendly social. No over-the-top fluff—just a well-curated day in the South End sun with your favorite four-legged co-pilot.
Whether your dog has the “zoomies” or just wants to lounge while you grab a drink, come hang out with a community that loves dogs as much as a good local brew.

✨ The Afternoon Lineup
🎧 The Sound: A live DJ setting a chill, backyard-party soundtrack.
🛍️ The “Doggie Bag”: A little something for the early arrivals—grab a bag of treats and local goods before they’re gone.
🍸 The “Hair of the Dog”: Specialty Tito’s Vodka cocktails and Monday Night craft drafts on tap.
🦴 The Market: A chance to browse a hand-picked selection of local pet makers and boutiques.
📸 The ‘Gram: Plenty of aesthetic corners to capture your “Goodest Boy” in his element.

Before you pet a dog, read the face.

Dogs use their body language to tell us when they’re comfortable, nervous, unsure, or overwhelmed. Learning to notice their ears, eyes, mouth, and posture can help prevent dog bites before they happen.

Many bites occur when people miss the warning signs and put dogs in situations that make them uncomfortable. Teaching children how to recognize these signals helps keep both kids and dogs safer.

Helping kids learn to understand a dog’s body language isn’t just smart—it’s one of the kindest ways we can respect what they’re trying to tell us. ❤️🐾

Why are dogs so addicting?

Because they literally change your brain—hello oxytocin.

But really…
it’s the way they love you unconditionally!
No judgment. No bad days.

Just pure happiness every time they see you.

And when it’s a rescue dog…
that bond hits even deeper. If you have ever rescued you know what I mean.

They’re not just dogs.
They’re everything. Don’t you agree?
