October in zones 6–7 means it's time to get your lavender ready for winter. Check the mulch around the crowns; gravel mulch can stay, but wet leaves and organic mulch should be pulled back from stems. If you grow lavender in pots, bring those containers inside a cool, dry spot after a few frosts and keep the soil just moist. Finally, make sure your gutters and downspouts don't drain water onto your lavender beds — winter wet is often the biggest trouble. Save this post and revisit when you start your fall chores.
