Now is the time to plant fall bulbs, daffodils, tulips, lilies, crocus are top of the lists. Big box stores should be stocking them now, mail order suppliers like K. van Bourgondein or Brecks still have plenty varieties to choose from. I am in the process of re-potting some bulbs.... those may or may not be for sale come spring, we will see how that goes this winter in containers.
Due to the heat, my supplier for growing my own crop of pansies crashed. I will be buying finished plants like I have in the past and unfortunately, most suppliers have raised their prices.... So, I won't be bringing in a lot of inventory in the way of Pansies and Viola's this fall.
I do have some trees and shrubs available that are hardy and best time to plant is October up to the first hard freeze.
Also, all plants have been relocated away from the front, to the side yard. Hoping to do some renovation to that area to be able to have a shade cloth to protect plants and me, when I have to water in the heat of summer. I will post when I have bedding plants available.

For those of you who are looking for large trees and shrubs, I was at Lowes yesterday and they had just gotten in some very nice landscaping trees and assume fruit trees too. I did not take 'inventory', LOL, what I saw looked good, so check the plants out before they wilt!
The heat has damaged some of my trees and shrubs and I water almost daily, but even though some look rough, Japanese maples mostly, in defense most of them, some branches with dead leaves have simply gone to a dormant stage!
I do have a lot of plants that will be ok for fall planting....not sure it will be pansies, however, I will be that updated.

Nothing in the nursery business goes as smoothly as it might look to customers. Plans for fall pansies, well, if the continued heat doesn't mess with the crop, I should have a decent selection of CoolWave cascading pansies, most are in 4+" pots, few in 6 pks.

However, due to supplier's crop complications....suspect that was due to the heat wave, I won't be able to grow what all I ordered, especially the Viola Color Max. May have to revert back to the more expensive finished flats I have had in the past. Crops of starter plants have been set and it will be around 4-6 weeks for some and up to 8 weeks for others. Will keep you posted.

In the mean time, most of the Japanese maples are already showing fall colors. I do have a few Gingko's, Balk Cypress's, flowering cherry tree, small selections of boxwoods, spiraeas, butterfly bush, hydrangeas, elephant ears, dwarf heavenly bamboo, evergreen conifers and other landscape shrubs. I usually available Friday and Saturdays, but please contact for appointments for those days and other days of the week.
Now to first hard freeze is the best time to plant trees and shrubs as they will grow roots all winter long, even if dormant, which means you might not need to water as much come next hot season.

When will this heat wave ever end? Leaves on too many plants suffering from the excessive heat, even when they have been watered well. We won't go into how it is affecting this senior citizen! Already had one bad heat experience, got to be cautious!

Have to finish watering, greenhouse and all of the back half got a good soaking this morning. Got to hot to get the hot from areas...
and right now too hot to be out in the direct sun.... OH, sprinklers, are a waste of water and $$. In the summer heat, water evaporates before it can hit the soil.
Hoping by 6pm, temps and shade out there will be tolerable to get everything watered well. And repeat it all tomorrow.

I will be picking up pansy and viola starter plugs the end of this week. If anyone wants either in 6 pks, need to order... for more information, message the nursery site. 😃
