Grant #51: The Christmas in Rockport Project
Tonight, Awesome Rockport awarded its 51st $1,000 microgrant to the Christmas in Rockport Project.
Rockport winters are notoriously quiet. The summer tourists are gone, many Bearskin Neck shops are closed, and local businesses struggle to get by until spring. While many locals enjoy having the quiet town to themselves, local business owners Marshall and Courtney Tulley (owners of the Addison Choate Inn, Sally Webster Inn, and Denim Blanket Company) think December could do more for the town.
Their goal is to bring more visitors to Rockport during the holidays. By adding festive lights, music, events, food, and targeted regional marketing, they want to give people a reason to visit, stay the weekend, and shop locally before the holidays.
It’s a bet that a livelier December could help our small businesses and the people who work in them make it through to spring.
Congratulations, Marshall and Courtney!
