The Texas Moonswiners loaded up the truck and headed to Crockett, TX for the 1st Annual International Barbeque Cookers Association Myrtis Dightman Rodeo & BBQ Cookoff.

Cole stole the show in the Kid's Que with a 2nd Place T-Bone steak entry. All kids had to choose their own steak, pick seasonings from those provided by the promoter and cook by themselves on grills/smokers provided. So our original gameplan was thrown out the window but Cole stepped up and showed out! 💪🏻❤️

The Moonswiners also had a great showing as well:

🐔 6th Place Chicken
🐷 7th Place Ribs
🐮 3rd Place Brisket

Good enough for 6th Place Overall 🏆

After taking a little time off since the end of June (It's been HOT y'all 🥵), we're loading up the cookers and heading back to the competition grounds!

Watching him learn the competition side of BBQ, get his hands dirty, and develop his own style has become one of my favorite parts of this crazy BBQ journey. He's ready to throw down in the Kids' Que on Saturday! 🥩🔥

and this past week they took us to Colorado Springs for the 4th Annual World Food Championships & Famous Dave's Bar-B-Que of America BBQ ALL-STAR SERIES at Texas T-Bone Steakhouse & Famous Dave's BBQ Colorado Springs.

This was the first time I had ever cooked at almost 7000 feet above sea level. It definitely threw some wrenches in the cook but we still showed up and showed out!

This contest has three categories: chicken, ribs & wild card. Each entry is judge on Appearance, Taste & Ex*****on.

Chicken: 3rd Place 🐔 💰
Ribs: 4th Place 🐷
Wild Card: 3rd Place 🐮 💰

The wild card I was extremely proud of because I got out of my comfort zone. Two of the judges personally came up to me and said it was the best thing they had been served the entire day. Unfortunately, one of the judges didn't get the best piece so my overall score dropped but that's how BBQ go.

My entry was Beef Belly (super hard to find) Burnt Ends. Smoked like a brisket, seasoned with SoFa King Awesome Products Twisted Texas & Heath Riles BBQ Beef Rub then cubed and glazed with apple gastrique (I'm in love with this btw) and plated on smoked sweet cream corn, topped with a smoked cheese crisp.

I bought enough Beef Belly so I could make it again at home since it's hard to source lol

I don't know what it is about me and trailer's and wheels falling off on the way to BBQ contests but as the wise sage Brittany Spears once said, "Oops, I did it again!" 🤷‍♂️

Side note. The last time this happened I pulled a 1st Place Brisket & a 2nd Place Rib... I'm definitely going to need a good day Saturday to pay for this side quest 🤷‍♂️💸🤣

We are just a week away from the World Food Championships & Famous Dave's Bar-B-Que of America All-Star Star BBQ Challenge in Colorado Springs! 🗓

This will be the 4th year in a row we have cooked this event and it has taken us all over the United States. Last year we drove to Michigan, in 2024 we competed in Tennessee and in the inaugural year of 2023 we stayed in Texas but still drove over 600 miles to El Paso.📍

Stole some drums from Mark Pugh and headed to Paris, TX for the 14th Annual Jenny Burton-Rushin Memorial BBQ Cookoff.

They always say ugly chicken wins and yesterday they were right again. Out of all my turn ins, chicken was the one I thought was the worst, and the only one that walked.

Congratulations to Kevin Jackson and Paris Cevrolet on their GC and everyone that heard their name's called.

Heath Riles BBQ was on full display with Texas Firebox BBQ also cooking this event! It was awesome seeing fellow ambassadors and my hometown friends that stopped by.

On Friday, we will be headed out to the 14th Annual Jenny Burton-Rushin Memorial BBQ Cookoff in Paris, TX 🔥🔥🔥

This is a great event that raises money for the local youth. If you are in the area, buy a plate and enjoy some award winning BBQ, while giving back to your community 💯

We can't wait to see old friends and make new ones! And maybe if we are lucky, walk away with some hardware 🏆 🏆
