Missing Matt

It’s a new normal. One which requires a lot more strength to get through even the simplest of tasks sometimes. But one which is filled with so much hope.

I miss him. Every day. But he’s with my Dad, Sister, Uncles, Aunts & Grandparents now and that makes my heart happy.

The new part of my life can still be full of joy, we need it now more than ever. And I hope I can make them all proud of me!!

It’s been one long year since Matt has been gone. Since the transition from full to broken but I am slowly allowing myself to be healed. My children need me to be there for them, so does my Wife. And I’m trying really hard not to let them down.

I’ll get there, we all will. And one day, we’ll see them all again. My life can be split into two sections: things that happened before my brother passed, and things that have happened since. His was a power of example of how hope, faith and love can bring new beginnings and can change the world.

I have to choose hope, faith, and love. Only then can the second half of my life be worth living.

As a lot of you know my family grew up on Biscayne Drive in Selden. Nobody was more proud to grow up there then my brother Matthew LoNigro, we were the Biscayne Bombers!! In an amazing tribute to him The Town of Brookhaven will be honoraraly renaming the street corner of Biscayne and Comet to Matthew LoNigro Way. This corner is right in front of the house me and my family grew up in. Nothing can change the missing piece of our lives but we can all smile knowing he would be so honored with this, he loved our old neighborhood so much and loved all of our neighbors even more. Thank you to Jeannine Ross-Smith for starting this process without our knowledge, we all know that Matthew was an integral part of the best times of our lives together!!

I love our old school neighborhood family so much, and you all have been there for us every step of the way. We have so many stories to tell!!!

The LoNigro’s are eternally grateful for all of the love shown to us from our community!!

🏈 The annual Suffolk County Football Coaches Association dinner put a cherry on top of an exciting 2023 football season.

East Islip's Sebastian Regis (pictured on this post) won big as he was awarded the Carl A. Hansen Award as the top football player in Suffolk County. He's the first lineman to earn the honor in 38 years. He also took home the Rob Burnett Award as the top defensive player and the Zellner Award as the top lineman.

Bayport-Blue Point, which finished 12-0 and won a Long Island championship, was honored with the Rutgers Trophy as the top team in the county.

THE LAX FOR HOPE team was started by my brother Matthew LoNigro,

He had created the team with boys from various local towns to compete in tournaments but more importantly to participate in local community service events. He firmly believed in giving back to your community and thought it was extremely important to teach these young men those values. Matt was a driving force behind Christmas Magic and in honor of him we are going to make this our first charitable endeavor.
