Flashing back to July 11th. Lovie and I escaped the means streets of Rodanthe for a respite on Pea Island. West wind ushered in the biting black flies and kept us in perpetual motion. Nice little run of small ground swell from the south was enough to get me off of my log and onto my summertime fling…5’6” Modern Fish shaped by Jesse Fernandez ☀️

We have the best customers! We’re often blessed with gifts from our customers and it’s always so humbling. However, this particular gift really struck a chord with me. It was given to me today by a young lady named Harper whom, along with her lovely family, has been visiting our shop for as long as I can remember. Harper was probably a baby the first time her parents brought her in. Always so kind and happy to be here. Harper made this shell creation using a method called decoupage, which integrates printed napkins on various mediums(this one being a sea shell). Harper‘s sweet demeanor when she presented me with this awesome gift along with her handwritten note and sketch of the shop nearly brought me to tears. I have to admit, I got a little choked up. Despite living on this gem of an island, occasionally I still find myself getting caught up and beat down by the daily grind. It’s interactions like these that remind me of why I’m doing this in the first place. Sometimes we don’t realize what an impact we can have on others so it’s best to keep a heart and attitude of gratitude. Thank you Harper! ❤️
