I do not say the following lightly. I believe a business should be run with integrity and a forthright attitude.

Poggies will never be offering scaletrains in our store.

So this post on their page is how I find out that after three years of requests from Shane Wilson at Scale Trains to offer his products in my store, he will not honor anymore dealers.
Three face to face meetings where he lied to me and told me he had to meet with the board the following week and would render a decision and contact me either way. Shane also said that all hobby stores will be out of business in 5 years at my 2022 meeting with him at the Rocky Mountain Toy Train Show in Denver Colorado.
Countless messages with his staff have went unanswered.
Then on the post where they announced the purchase of exactrail.
I find the following response to another frustrated store who whose customers wanted the store to offer their products.
Shane Wilson.
You are a lying disgrace to the Model Railroad Industry.
You are driven by greed and Just like Chris at exactrail,your business will be failing soon enough.
You Shane Wilson should have kept your word and at least informed me of your lack of desire to have me offer your products in my store.
I have no respect for you or your company.
Evidently the way you started developing your 1st product while still employed at Athearn and the way you ghosted the owner of Overland Models after you got what you wanted.
Your are a crook and a troll.
Prove me wrong A-hole!!

Shane Wilson stated the following:
Thank you for your interest in carrying our models in your store, Tina Marie Caouette. We appreciate your personal purchases too.

Most retailers discount locomotives and freight cars 10% to 20% off retail. A dealer who discounts similar brands closer to 20% makes similar profit margins when selling our models.

We’d like to share some background about why we’re no longer opening retail stores. For the first couple of years, after we publicly announced our company, we aggressively pursued business relationships with hundreds of hobby retailers. During that time, only 50ish established accounts. Unfortunately, this small number would not be able to generate the profit needed to sustain our business long-term. The risk of our four families’ losing everything financially was great so the only choice we had was to aggressively pursue our direct business.

When we unveiled the HO ET44, our direct sales exploded, and we received more inquiries from dealers about stocking our products than ever. As we set up new retailer accounts, we anticipated the increased revenue would offset the profit loss. As the preorder deadline approached, we received significant direct preorder cancelations. We still thought we would be ok because the dealers would order significantly more than the cancelations. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. The dealer orders were about the same as the canceled consumer orders so our profit actually declined.

At that point, we decided to stop opening new retailers and primarily focus on our direct business. To this day, we continue with the dealers who supported us in the beginning. We have no plans to discontinue selling to them as long as they continue to stock and support our models.

Some may see the additional profit generated by selling most of our models directly as greed. In reality, the extra profit allows us to continually bring all-new locomotives, freight cars, containers, etc. to market; hire more team members to take care of our customers and build our business; acquire companies, invest in our future, and much more.

You raise good points about modelers who do not buy online and helping newcomers. We recently began advertising in print magazines with 1970s and 1980s-style mailorder ads that encourage readers to call us to place an order. Behind the scenes, we are developing the infrastructure to host a community on our website that will assist new people in getting started in model railroading. We also have many more things in the works to share our favorite hobby with fellow modelers.

That concludes the comments made by Shane Wilson of Scale Trains.
They also now own MTH HO scale which we were authorized resellers for. Fox Valley which we also carried and now exact rail which spinelessly dropped all their dealers years ago.
This concludes my rant and thank you to all of our loyal customers.
