Greetings All! I'm sorry to have to share this news. The Rolla Scout Shop's last day open will be on Tuesday, November 21 (12-6 regular hours).
For two and half years the Kaleidoscope Discovery Center and the Ozark Trails Council managed to keep this Council location open to serve the volunteers in the area, despite an initial closing proposal in 2015.
Unfortunately, the shop has not covered costs for even one month. With financial pressures from all around, it was decided to cut losses and look for other ways to serve the volunteers and customers of this store.
The Rolla Scout Shop opened a number of years ago with private donations. Over the years, internet convenience had taken a toll on many local businesses. While sales have been on the rise, they have not been enough to come close to cover costs. Over the years many hours have been volunteered by countless individuals (scouters and non-scouters) to keep this location a float. Thank you to all who have helped extend the time period of this shop.
The Rolla Scout Shop is one of a few council-run shops still in existence. Most councils have moved to an exclusive national store organization.
There is a process in place to order awards through the national Springfield store and we will get that information to you as quickly as we can. In the meantime the District Executive and his staff will continue to stay in the same location. The Kaleidoscope and the BSA continue to remain committed to supporting each other by working together on joint ventures that support scouting and youth learning in the area.
