River report is up on our site, link in bio—good luck out there!

04/22/2026

River Report: While today will be cloudy with a high just over 50, tomorrow looks like it will be a solid day weather-wise with a high of 60 and clear skies, save for some wind in the afternoon. The remainder of the week headed into the weekend looks cool with a good amount of rain in the forecast. Flows on the Beaverkill are at a very manageable 530 CFS as this is being written, a good level for wade fishing, though it could spike with incoming rain. Water temperatures are down-trending after a spike caused by last week’s warm weather. You might see some caddis both large-ish and small and possibly some Hendricksons, blue quills, and—looking at the forecast—BWOs. Reports indicate that fish have been somewhat reluctant to rise on the Beaverkill so you can’t go wrong with a dry-dropper rig to do some prospecting. An appropriately sized nymph below a buoyant dry fly will likely turn some heads, and you of course always have a shot at picking one up on the dry fly. The Willowemoc tells a similar story with a pretty ideal flow rate just below 130 CFS and increasing bug activity. Again, you can’t go wrong with a dry dropper in the absence of consistently rising fish. The West Branch is running at about 1000 CFS at the moment, allowing for some wading opportunities in certain areas, and ideal flows for fishing from a boat. Reports indicate that bug activity is increasing and fish are starting to feed on surface in greater numbers. We are now open 7 days a week going forward, see above for exact hours. Good luck out there and we hope to see you soon!

Spring is finally giving us a tease! Warmer weather has moved in today, if only briefly as temps are expected to drop back down Friday and Saturday, but Sunday looks milder and early next week should also be decent. The Beaverkill is at 1000 cfs as I write this and dropping slowly but steadily. It is definitely fishable but take care wading it. Stonefly and size 14 to 16 mayfly and caddis nymphs will be your best bet though you may find a fish or two willing to chase a streamer. The West Branch right now is spilling over the dam at Collinsville and that makes for some of the best streamer fishing of the year here. You will want to fish from a boat and we have guides available to get you out there on this great streamer bite. We are open Friday 11 to 4, Saturday through Monday 10 to 3. We will expand our hours next week--starting Wednesday for opening day! We will be open 9 to 4 and will have free donuts and coffee!

We are hiring for 2026! We are looking one full-time person starting in late March/early April and running through October or later and one part-time person, starting in May and running through the season. For the right individual, there is the opportunity to grow into a full-time management position. There is also the potential for some guide work for qualified applicants.

The Beaverkill Angler is the 2017 Orvis Authorized Retailer of the year and has served the area for nearly 50 years. We are the region’s largest fly shop and located in the heart of some of the best trout fishing in the Northeastern US. We are steps from the famed Beaverkill and Willowemoc Rivers, and a short strike to the East Branch, West Branch and Mainstem Delaware Rivers, the Neversink River, the Scoharie and Esopus Creek. Our bug hatches are unrivaled on the East Coast and the history of fly fishing in this area runs deep. You will have great fishing opportunities!

We are looking for hard working, personable folks to work in a fast-paced, fun environment. Fly fishing and product knowledge is a must; fly tying and local knowledge, or the willingness to get up to speed quickly, is also very helpful. You must have basic computer literacy skills and be comfortable engaging customers with respect and cordiality.

Day to day responsibilities for both positions include assisting customers with product and fly selection as well as offering fishing advice, helping coordinate guide trips, stocking and maintaining the sales floor, receiving inventory, processing shipments and returns, regular store cleaning, updating website and social media feeds including generating regular fishing reports, and assisting with basic instruction like introductory casting clinics, beginner fly tying and beginner fly fishing lessons. Qualified folks will have the opportunity to pick up some guide trips (as long as you have proper licensing and insurance).

This could be a stepping stone to full-time year round work for the right person. The shop is under new ownership and we are expanding our e-commerce operations and looking to grow the shop in new directions. Forward-looking and tech savvy individuals will have potential opportunities to grow with us and help lead the shop into the future.

Compensation is competitive and depends on experience. Perks include store discounts and potential for pro deals.

11/24/25 Fishing Report for Thanksgiving Week: Late fall conditions are pretty decent right now. Wednesday looks like the optimal day to fish this week with temperatures soaring into the 50s! There appears to be a little rain on the way Tuesday and Wednesday and that should liven things up on the Beaverkill and Willow. Colder temps come back at the end of the week and through the weekend. The Delaware system is still on the low side and ideal for wade fishing right now. As these temps stay colder, look to fish the warmest part of the day, usually mid afternoon, as this is when the fish will be most active. Also look for deeper, slower water and on the Delaware, remember that the water will be warmest closer to the dams. Nymphing will be your best bet with bigger stoneflies and smaller mayflies as well as egg patterns. It's always worth trying streamers: generally fish them low and slow but vary it just in case you find some more active fish. We are starting our winter sale this week: 10 to 25 percent off selected items including waders, some reels, fly lines, clothing and more. IN STORE ONLY!

Catskill Fly Fishing Report 11/20/2025

We are slowly making our way towards winter, higher elevation areas around Roscoe have had some snow but not much accumulation. Roscoe has had some snow fall but mostly rain that has improved the flow of the Beaverkill and Willowemoc. The East Brach continues to run low along with the West Branch, neither have enough water to float but are at a great wading flow if you want to float the Main Stem is the place to be. Nymphs and streamers are the name of the game for the next few months, large stone fly patterns with a smaller flashy nymph above is my preferred way to nymph through the winter. Streamers big and small work through winter it just depends on the fishes mood, our guides and shop staff have had luck on rainbow and brown trout colored streamers that incorporate bucktail and rabbit strips. Browns are still out spawning so be cautious and avoid shallow slack water where reds may be.

Catskill Fly Fishing Report 11/13/2025

Winter is starting to set in across Upstate New York, in the Roscoe area expect temps around freezing and lots of rain and snow. The fishing has started to slow down and big browns are out spawning so be cautious if your getting out on the water. Nymphing is the most effective strategy now, heavy stone fly's with a small flashy bug above is working well. If you want some peace and quiet on the water now is the time to get out.
