Ask anyone who moves dirt on the south coast what October means: culverts, ditching, drainage, mud, and every job you didn't finish costing double.

ODOT is finishing roughly seven miles of paving, seven bridge repairs and 25 culverts on OR-42 between US 101 and Coquille this fall (ODOT project bulletin). Coos County's road department is running lean into storm season. The private drainage and access work that used to wait for the county is landing on contractors and landowners.

If you need another machine for that work, the decision is now — not in November. KX excavators, SVL track loaders and the attachments to go with them.

Around here the grass doesn't come back because of summer. It comes back because of what you do in the fall, once the moisture returns: overseeding, harrowing, spreading, and getting the fence line back where it belongs (OSU's forage guidance, PNW 699).
