Bassoon Reed Quick Tip:

Check the crow!

➡️ If you hear only high sounds, the reed is likely too hard. Squeeze the first wire from the top/ bottom to close the reed's tip opening.

➡️ If you hear only low sounds, the reed is likely too soft. Squeeze the first wire from the sides to open the reed's tip opening.

Check out what our customers are saying about Magic Reeds Pro Oboe Reeds!

“I have been using this kind of reed for almost 2 years straight now and have never had any issues with any that I have purchased. This reed allows for beautiful tone quality throughout. I have noticed they last much longer than others that I have tried before. The magic reed-no pun intended, is magic! I would recommend this to anyone, even beginners, as the reed comes in medium and hard. I will always be repurchasing this reed!” - Emily

Contrabassoon Fun Fact:
Early contrabassoons were shaped like giant bassoons, with 16 feet of tubing. The characteristic folded shape we know today did not become standardized until the late 1800's!
