Who is this product for:
This is the light for everyone that is tired of large, bulky, too-bright, battery wasting flashlights. Campers will enjoy the features for the kids to carry. With a lanyard it is around their necks and less prone to being left behind. Plus the kids can go to sleep with the light on, knowing it will turn itself off. Backpackers will enjoy the features of an ultra-light fla
shlight that can operate for many hours and thus not have to carry batteries for many days of hiking. Furthermore, the low intensity provides ample light to do many things in the dark. Hunters will enjoy the low intensity feature to check their gear at night without alerting animals around them. Everyday people will enjoy the light for its handy, light weight use. Background and the goal:
I have been working on this product for about a year. The programming was more challenging to implement all the features. The packaging has been the most difficult. I am a backpacker and enjoy spending days and nights where the city lights are not to be seen. I have several flashlights but find two key problems with them: battery life and size. I hate having to carry batteries to keep flashlights working. I also do not need a flashlight that is heavy - yes, even the three AAA lights are heavy. So my goal was to develop a flashlight that has several advantages. Light weight - 0.9 oz with lanyard, less than the weight of a typical spoon
Small - 2.5" long and .75" by 1" cross section (this is essentially a box around the entire product. Long lasting - The light can hold a charge for over 4 months and operate over a hundred 60 minute low-light, 1.5 lumen, cycles or 30-second 100 lumen cycles. Rechargeable - BeeBRT can charge from any micro-USB connection. Turns off automatically - timeout feature is 30 seconds at the brightest intensity (100 lumens), and around 60 minutes at lowest intensity (1.5 lumens)
Easily found - The back end of the case is made of bright yellow food grade ABS material; this allows one to easily spot the BeeBRT on the ground or inside a pack pocket. The front side of the case is frosted clear, except where the main light come out it is optically clear; on the pc board seen there is a strip of glow-in-the-dark tape that will charge up when the light is on. If the light turns off, the tape will remain glowing for many hours afterward. Intensity control - five intensity levels ranging from 1.5 lumens (enough to see very well in a small room / tent without blinding people), to 100 lumens (enough to see at least 50 feet in the dark, make people's eyes hurt). Additional features that come with the product. A self time-out feature - if the light is turned on, it will turn off after a preset amount of time. If using for the kids, no need to worry if they fall asleep with the light on! A count-down turn-off feature - if the power button is pressed and held, the user can set a time-out period at that intensity up to about 15 seconds. This gives one to settle in to the sleeping bag without worries of leaving the light on. Hands-free holding - one can easily hold the food-grade ABS plastic light between their teeth without any effort. Single button operation - one button is all that is required to cycle through the intensity levels and to set the custom time-out. Carry convenience - Holes in the BeeBRT to attach a lanyard, that comes included, so that it can be draped around the neck for quick and easy access. The light can be quickly disconnected by the buckle on the lanyard. Water resistant - not everything is built to be submerged, but this one is designed to be water resistant with a cover over the button and a plug for the micro-USB connector. Low battery detection - still gives light, but for a shorter time so that the battery is not discharged below what it can be recharged. Thus ensuring long battery performance.
