Another Minnesota State Fair in the books!!😁

For twelve days, our penny press design sat inside the KARE11 Barn on Nelson Street— one of four you could choose from at the machine.

WHO REMEMBERS THESE?🚃

Minneapolis Streetcar tokens— used to ride the rails from 1875 to 1954, when the Twin Cities were connected by one of the largest streetcar systems in the country. Before highways, before buses, this is how people got to work, to school, to Lake Harriet on a Sunday afternoon.

A little history for the curious: most of these tokens were minted in huge numbers to keep up with daily ridership , so while they’re a genuine piece of Twin Cities history, they’re not considered rare in the coin world— you won’t find one funding retirement. What they ARE good for is a great story, a family heirloom, or a fun addition to a collection.

If you’ve got a jar of these tucked away from a grandparent, we’d love to see them— and we’re always happy to take a look, free of charge, no obligation.

This week's find is a vintage Engelhard 7oz poured silver bar — 1st series, crude finish, with fewer than 150 ever made.

Engelhard made silver bars from the 1960s until 1988. The earliest bars, like this one, were poured by hand before the process was refined, giving them a rougher, more irregular look than later series. That crude finish is actually what makes them special — it's a mark of how early and how rare they are.999 fine silver, serial #00574. With under 150 ever made, this is a genuinely uncommon piece.
