On Tuesday’s gathering ,we didn’t start with a concept. We started with a left side and a right side…and the fact that most of us move through the world with one of them doing most of the riding.
You can feel it if you check in. One shoulder may be a little busier. One foot may trust the ground more. One half of the ribcage may move easily while the other stays on duty.
Two ways of meeting life, living right there in your body. Not in theory or a logical conversation. The conversation happens in the way you move, breathe, walk, and ride.
The old story says the left brain is logic and the right brain is creativity. That version is oversimplified, and it has never helped much in the saddle.
Both sides are involved in language. Both sides feel. Both sides participate in how we make meaning.
The difference is partly in how they pay attention.
One side (left hemisphere) is more inclined to narrow in: one horse in the herd. It locks on, names, sorts, plans, solves, and gets the latch shut. It helps keep you a step ahead. After a season that asked too much of you, that kind of attention makes sense. It is protection. It is not brokenness.
The other side (right hemisphere) stays open to the whole field.
The whole field is where we remember the feeling of being alive ❤️ a feeling a capable woman can lose track of for a long time while still getting everything done.
We worked both sides of the body on Tuesday because this conversation does not happen through thinking alone.
Left and right have to be in the room.
Not matching.
Not performing.
Just both here.
So the narrow beam of focus can return to being a helper, rather than carrying everything alone. So the wider field of attention can come forward again.
If you were on the call, notice which side of you wants to ride out ahead this week. See whether the other side is willing to come with you.
If you missed it, swipe through the slides. The two-minute practice is in there.
You can do it in the kitchen.
You can do it on a horse.
You can do it exactly as you are.
Come as you are next Tuesday if you want to practice in company.
