Low-flow conditions can be frustrating. When the water drops, bass often slow down and become less active, making them a little harder to convince to eat.

But low water doesn’t mean the fishing has to be tough. It simply means it’s time to adjust your technique.

The name of the game: GO SMALLER.

Downsize your fly selection and focus your casts on deeper pools, brush piles, and along the banks. Sometimes a subtle presentation is all it takes to turn a slow day into a productive one.

We spend plenty of time searching the deep runs for river monsters, but don’t overlook the shallow pocket water and deep undercuts tucked beneath the banks.

Some of the biggest bass can be hiding in water that looks way too shallow to hold a fish that size.

Don’t just fish the deep water—fish the structures!
