Our New Release table is looking ✨gorgeous✨ this morning. A new special edition of Book Lovers! The very timely sounding The Breakup by Kurt Anderson.

Jenny loved The Salt King by : “Apocalyptic, yes, but also luscious, witchy, and queer.”

Becca recommends Lilac by B.B. Reid : “a stunnjng enemies to lovers, rock and roll, angst-filled book you will fall in love with.” (all of our copies are signed!)

And Alex P suggests Crooked Teeth by Danny Ramadan : “In reading this I knew u would find what I am most committed to researching—the inextricable relationship between western colonialism, structural, codified homophobia, and Islamophobia.”

We have a few events in the next couple of weeks that needed some extra attention!

On August 25th, we’re celebrating the newest TKingfisher release, DAGGERBOUND, with a TEA Kingfisher party. Tea, drinks, snacks, and all things T Kingfisher!

On September 1st, we also can’t wait to celebrate THE KNAVE AND THE MOON with a release party. We have goodies, snacks, drinks, and the insatiable urge to start reading it RIGHT NOW.

And, on September 2nd, we are welcoming Royal Oak local Dave Hardin. He’ll be in conversation with cofounder Jenny to discuss his new memoir, WATER FINDS A WAY.

Happy Bookstore Romance Day! We’ve got blind dates with a book still available with purchase until we run out, a fully stocked drink cooler, and plenty of sweet treats to celebrate one of our favorite bookish holidays!

This October, Sidetrack Bookshop welcomes Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear (Andy Beshear) to Royal Oak High School to celebrate the launch of his new book, GO AND DO LIKEWISE: HOW WE HEAL A BROKEN COUNTRY. In a hopeful conversation about healing a divided nation through our shared values and reclaiming faith as a force for good instead of harm, Governor Beshear will share what his own faith has meant to him, how it has informed his family and public life—and serves as a rebuke to how faith has been hijacked, profaned, misused and corrupted by Donald Trump and other public figures. Michigan’s own Governor Gretchen Whitmer will moderate.

We are still pinching ourselves over last night! Having Emily Rath and B.B. Reid in Royal Oak was so, so much fun. Thank you to everyone who came out to help us make Emily Rath’s first Michigan tour stop incredible! And special thank you to Tequila Blue Nightclub for providing such a beautiful space for us.

We have signed copies of Devour Me, and more of Emily’s backlist in the store, as well as signed copies of Lilac by B.B. Reid a week early! 👀

We had so much fun doing trivia at our Heated Rivalry parties over the winter, that we decided to bring trivia back for Bookstore Romance Day on Saturday August 15th! Bring your knowledge of the classics, contemporaries, and industry, and we’ll bring a fully stocked drink cooler, and fun prizes/finished copies of new releases gifted from the publisher! Come with your team, or we guarantee you’ll make new friends. Trivia is at 6:30, but all day we’ll be doing blind date with a book while supplies last. Did you know that the author of Lady Tremaine, Rachel Hochhauser, is also one of the creators of piecework puzzles?! They are a staff favorite because the photos are so stunning, and the pieces fit together incredibly (real puzzle people know!). We got a giant delivery of new Piecework Puzzles this week and decided to pair them with some books that would be a great match. 🧩

Hello, sweet witches! We are less than ONE WEEK away from our Emily Rath and B.B. Reid event at Tequila Blue Nightclub on August 12th 🖤 there are just a few tickets left, so don’t miss out on Emily’s first ever Michigan tour stop! We also got a sneak peek at the goodies she’ll be bringing along featuring incredible character art. We also got the green light to sell B.B.
