Never go on a motorcycle ride without a couple of bungee cords. In this Dennis Kirk Tech Tip, RidewithRea is showing why these simple, inexpensive straps can be one of the most versatile tools you carry on your bike.

From securing an extra jacket or groceries to stabilizing a tail bag, bungee cords can help haul gear in a pinch. They can even keep your motorcycle cover from catching wind and potentially tipping your bike over. For larger or bulkier items, adjustable strap hooks can add convenient tie-down points without scratching your bike.

Bungee cords are cheap, compact, and easy to stash under almost any motorcycle seat. But how have you used them on a ride? Share your best roadside bungee cord hack in the comments!

After an unexpected deer strike sidelined his 2024 Road Glide, Wade Drew picked up a 1994 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Classic as a temporary ride, but it quickly became the custom build he'd been planning for years.

In this bike spotlight from the Minnesota Garage Build Bike Show presented by Dennis Kirk, Wade explains how a small piece of teal woven leather in the original hand grips, plus the discovery of matching factory teal paint inside the fuel tank, inspired the bike's striking color-shifting paint that changes from blue to teal, purple, red, and copper depending on the light.

The retro-inspired build pays homage to the FL models of the 1960s and '70s with wide whitewall tires and vintage Shovelhead saddlebags adapted using custom-made brackets. Underneath is an 80 cubic-inch Evolution engine with an Andrews cam and 2-into-1 exhaust, but what makes the bike truly special is that Wade completed every aspect of the build himself, including the fabrication and paint.

Proper torque is one of the simplest ways to prevent damaged parts, stripped threads, and expensive repairs. But one common mistake can throw everything off. In this Dennis Kirk Tech Tip, RidewithRea explains why you should never "double click" your torque wrench and how using it correctly ensures your fasteners are tightened to the manufacturer's specifications.

You'll also learn the one exception to the rule: assemblies with multiple bolts that work together, where tightening one fastener can affect the others. Rea walks through the proper step-by-step tightening process so every bolt ends up at the correct torque without over-tightening.

Whether you're wrenching on your motorcycle for routine maintenance or a full rebuild, this quick tip will help you work smarter and protect your machine.
