Boehm’s Garden Center is a family-operated, full-service nursery and garden center in Rushville, Illinois, proudly serving gardening enthusiasts and landscaping professionals since 1978. We specialize in a wide selection of Illinois-native and well-adapted plants, including trees, shrubs, perennials, and grasses, with the Rootmaker System helping ensure strong, healthy root development. With unique plant varieties selected for local landscapes and access to a certified arborist, Boehm’s provides expert plant and tree care. ROLE DESCRIPTION:
The Landscape Crew Member is a part-time, on-site position based at Boehm’s Garden Center in Rushville, IL, with potential for full-time employment. During the active landscaping season, this position may offer near full-time hours depending on workload and business needs. This role involves preparing and maintaining residential and commercial landscapes, including planting trees, shrubs, perennials, and grasses, as well as mulching, edging, and performing general landscape and garden bed maintenance. Daily tasks include operating basic landscaping tools and equipment, assisting with the installation of new landscape designs, and supporting seasonal cleanup activities such as pruning, spraying, debris management, and snow removal as needed. The Crew Member will work closely with the landscape team to follow project plans, maintain safe work practices, and deliver high-quality outdoor spaces that align with Boehm’s standards. The role may also involve interacting with customers on-site, answering basic questions, and representing the garden center in a professional manner.
STARTING WAGE:
Competitive hourly wage based on experience, qualifications, and initiative, with opportunities for increased responsibility and advancement.
HOURS:
Seasonal hours typically range from 36–44 hours per week during the active landscaping season, depending on workload and business needs. Hours may vary during slower periods of the year.
POTENTIAL FOR FULL-TIME:
Full-time opportunities and associated benefits may be discussed based on performance, experience, and the needs of the business.
QUALIFICATIONS:
-Ability to perform physical outdoor work, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods in various weather conditions.
-Must have an Illinois Pesticide Applicator License or be willing and able to obtain one as a condition of employment.
-Basic knowledge of plants, soil, and landscape maintenance.
-Experience using hand tools and small power equipment such as shovels, rakes, pruners, leaf blowers, and mowers, or willingness to learn.
-Self-motivated and dependable team player with strong communication skills and the ability to follow directions, work safely, and contribute to a productive job site.
-Strong attention to detail and pride in quality work.
-Willingness to learn proper planting, pruning, mulching, edging, and other landscape installation techniques.
-Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
-Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation to Rushville, IL, are required.
-Previous landscaping, landscape design, nursery, or groundskeeping experience is helpful but not required.
-High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
