Happy Halloween Month! We love October around here and the cooler weather has really helped us to get in the fall spirit. There are a lot of fun activities coming up this month in downtown, and more throughout the end of the year. Be sure to stay up-to-date so you don't miss out!

October Happenings...

Downtown Happenings...
Hold onto your hat: October is going to take us for a wild ride! I am not going to be able to link everything here, so be sure to check out your favorite spots' pages and the local event pages for even more fun! Here are a few:

Oct 3rd: Hilltop Festival (https://www.facebook.com/share/1Z8WsjEXh2/) - 10-3:00 (we will be open normal hours 10-4:00) you might need a rain jacket, but it will be worth it! Norris Public Library (https://www.facebook.com/share/1GHR9wm5Yi/) is hosting Pumpkin Painting and the Norris Library Foundation's book sale 10-1:00.

Oct 16th: Kick-off night for Minted Memories: Haunted Tales of Rutherfordton (https://www.facebook.com/share/1DmN4EWM37/) tours presented by Rutherford Town Rising and Tri-City Theatre. This is a fundraiser for RTR.

Oct 17th: Cars and Coffee Rutherfordton (https://www.facebook.com/share/1C29Tnwnmb/) and Oktoberfest (https://www.facebook.com/share/1CS1V7FvSh/) are both happening this day! Come downtown for some great fun!

Oct 30th: The final 2026 Rutherford Food, Art, and Brew (https://www.facebook.com/share/1CZAWbiBqa/) will be happening downtown. Don't miss it! We will only stay open until 6:30ish for this FAB.

Oct 31st: Downtown Trick or Treating (https://www.facebook.com/share/1TmbURvzU9/) - 4-6:00! Bring the kiddos downtown to kick off their fun trick or treating evening and grab some supper before heading to the neighborhoods!

MHGS Happenings...
We just restocked our Anderson Frontier Soup section - these are a "souper" easy way to get supper ready:). The coolest Day of the Dead Nutcrackers have arrived, grab your favorite before they are gone. We are gearing up for the holiday season and plan to have our holiday items start hitting the shelves the first week of November.

A Note from Christy...
If you're wondering why I love October so much, Steven and Reid both have Halloween birthdays, so we pretty much celebrate all month! The fall weather and changing leaves make me happy, too. :)
I hope you enjoy this month and find plenty of reasons to get out and spend time together. Come downtown, grab a bite to eat, do a little shopping, or treat yourself to some self-care at one of our wonderful businesses.
October is a really important month for small businesses. We're filling our shelves and preparing for the holidays, while still needing a strong October to keep things moving. Shopping a little early, eating local, or simply choosing a downtown business when you can makes a bigger difference than you might realize. Your support now helps our businesses and employees head into the busiest part of the year ready to give you our best.
Thank you for continuing to show up for downtown Rutherfordton. We really do notice, and we really do appreciate it.

Town Council Update
As many of you know, I’m running for Rutherfordton Town Council this fall. Election Day is getting close, and I’m grateful for all the conversations, questions and encouragement I’ve received along the way.

Hilltop Festival is THIS Saturday! October 3rd, 10-3:00 (note the new end time). We will be in open our normal hours 10-4:00, so stop in to see us and taste test a yummy rum cake!! We look forward to seeing you then:).

🕙 Updated festival hours: 10 a.m.–3 p.m.

We’re ending at 3 p.m. instead of 5 p.m. to help get ahead of the afternoon rain. Come early, stay for lunch, and get that shopping done! 🛍️

Enjoy the car show, music, pumpkin painting, balloon twisting, dog costume contest, and Mr. Vic’s magic show. Grab something good to eat, visit our vendors, and stop in our downtown shops.

Bring the family, meet up with friends, and take time to catch up with your neighbors. Those conversations and familiar faces are a big part of what makes Hilltop special. ❤️

You can fit in a full morning of fun, lunch, and a little shopping and still make it home for your afternoon nap. You’re welcome. 😴

New cat toys from Dezi & Roo are here, along with the favorites we have been carrying! Give your favorite furry companion a special treat❤️🐱. Dutch is demonstrating the correct way to use the magic carpet (can you see him?) and Delilah is showing off her absolute favorite toy wand:).

Got our “Scary” Crow up!! It’s hard to get good pics with our windows, so walk by our display at night to get the full effect:). We thought we would go very “Halloween” this year to help RTR kick off their first annual Haunted Tours in downtown Rutherfordton! Check out Rutherford Town Rising’s page for more details.

Ritchie Hill Bakery cheese straws are back in stock!! This customer favorite stays on the shelf year round - but we had messed around and ran out:). We are happy they are back in time for Hilltop Festival this Saturday!

This holiday fundraiser highlights the incredible work happening right here in Rutherfordton. Selected organizations will have their mission shared with the community throughout the fundraiser and will receive a minimum of $250, with the opportunity to receive more through community participation.
