Abbey & I baked for another tonight for 41 guests at Capital Books. Pumpkin coffee cake & espresso chocolate cake were on the menu. Always a fun time with these groups who’ve traveled across the states and stopping at different cities. ~Heidi

Ross discusses the beginning of a young Mark Twain’s writing career and his start at the California Union in 1866 when he was sent to the Sandwich Islands, now known as the Hawaiian Islands. Capital Books Press republished Twain’s book about the Sandwich Islands Letters, now available at both Capital Books and California Books and Gifts.

New shirts coming next week!

“Staff is weird” in dark blue, brown, black and purple!

We’re also restocking our “Children’s book area littered with woke, leftist, ideologue literature”

I don’t think the person giving us the woke leftist review knew what he was starting. We’ve made more than $2000 from his review so far.

It’s no secret that parking fees in Sacramento are ridiculously high. If the City wants to encourage people to shop Downtown and in Midtown, continuously raising parking fees for visitors and employees isn’t the way to do that. But we are committed to doing all that we can to make your shopping experience at both Capital Books & California Books and Gifts as painless as possible, so we’ll continue to purchase parking validations from the City. Your (less than 2-hour) parking will be free with purchase. So, grab a book or gift item and get some lunch at a nearby spot while you’re here. Downtown shops and restaurants can use your support.

Nearest Parking Garages:

Entrance at 10th & L St
