Meet Siobhan Nehin! Siobhan is a super volunteer who has been involved with WhimZeyLand and SHAMc since the beginning. We asked her our three questions...
What do you do at SHAMc?
I have been a volunteer for many years. I usually work the numerous events during the season, and this year, I also volunteered to help with art camp.
What keeps you coming back?
I love the whole SHAMc vibe, where I’ve met so many fabulous people. As a lifelong artist, I enjoy being with other creative people. Volunteering for this summer’s SHAMc art camp was a great way to ease into my recent retirement. I highly recommend retired people volunteer for events that revolve around young people. I have found firsthand that interacting with energetic children and teenagers stimulates cognitive function. Challenging the brain to adapt to new trends, and it keeps thinking flexible. I have learned a lot from the kids- one of the campers told me about pygmy owls, which I’m looking forward to drawing!
What's something creative, surprising, or unusual about you?
My first career was in NY state, where I led a high-paced life as an art director/ creative director.
I once met OJ Simpson, but back to creativity, I’ve tried many mediums, and recently I’ve fallen head over heels with colored pencil drawing. I start my days doing around 5 miles on my new e-bike, and then gear down to an afternoon of meditative colored pencil drawing.
Once it cools down, I will start some days out in the Gulf, reviving my windsurfing skills. I put aside windsurfing when my business really heated up. For the last 25 years, I was one of Tampa Bay’s highly rated landscape designers.
Siobhan, from the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU for all of your support! We couldn’t have done summer camps this year without you, among many other things! ❤️
