🍂🌸 THE MUMS ARE FINALLY HERE! 🌸🍂

Our greenhouse is looking nice and full of greenery again, and we couldn’t be happier to see all those fall colors starting to arrive! 🍁💚

A lot of our mums haven’t quite cracked open yet, but no doubt they’ll be showing off their blooms very soon! 🌼👀 We intentionally bring them in a little later so you can enjoy their color further into the fall.

They’ve started their annual migration south, and we’ve been lucky enough to see them showing up in numbers around the garden center lately! 💛🧡

They’ve especially been loving our echinaceas recently—stopping by for a little nectar before continuing their journey south. 🌿🦋

Meet the Centennial Ruby™ Hydrangea from Monrovia—and this one is a real showstopper!

Created as a special release celebrating Monrovia’s 100th anniversary, Centennial Ruby starts with rich ruby-red mophead blooms that deepen as they age, sometimes becoming an incredible deep, almost-black color. 😍🖤
It’s compact, sturdy, and loaded with thick green foliage, with strong stems that help keep those gorgeous blooms standing tall. And yes—it reblooms! 🌸

💜 Check out these colorful clusters of asters! 💙🌿

We just received a few of the Amethyst and Lilac Blue varieties from Monrovia and they are putting on quite the show! 🌸

These compact, mounding asters are completely covered in blooms for weeks in late summer and fall, bringing bright color to your garden long after many summer flowers have faded. Even better, they naturally maintain their tidy shape without trimming or pinching back. 🙌

🦋 Butterflies love them! Their blooms provide an important late-season nectar source for pollinators, while their foliage is deer and rabbit resistant.

Mammoth Daisies. 🤔🌼
Wait… aren’t we talking about mums?!

YES! 😂

When these chrysanthemum hybrids were developed through the University of Minnesota’s Chrysanthemum Breeding Program, they were given the name Mammoth Daisies because of their HUGE size and daisy-like blooms. But make no mistake—they are indeed mums, bred specifically to develop that beautiful shrub-like cushion growth habit. 🌿🌼

From Hive to Jar! 🐝

Ever wonder how honey goes from a busy beehive to the jar on your kitchen counter? Our beekeeper walked us through the process, and we thought we’d bring you along! From collecting honey-filled frames to uncapping, extracting, filtering, and finally bottling, there’s a lot of work that goes into every sweet little jar. 🍯✨

🍯 Step 1: The Honey Super
A “super” is a shorter box placed above the two main hive boxes when the nectar flow begins. This frame is packed with honey! Once uncapped and extracted, a single frame like this can yield 2–3 pounds of liquid honey.

🍯 Step 2: Uncapping
Before the honey can be extracted, the wax cappings covering the honey cells need to be removed. We use a spiked uncapping roller to break through the cappings and expose the liquid honey inside.

🍯 Step 3: Extracting
Once uncapped, the frames go into our extractor, which holds three frames at a time. The frames spin for several minutes, using centrifugal force to pull the honey from the comb and onto the walls of the extractor.

🍯 Step 4: Filtering & Bottling
The honey flows to the bottom of the extractor and through a honey gate into a filter. The filter removes bits of wax and other debris, while leaving the naturally occurring pollen in the honey. The filtered honey is collected, bottled, and labeled for sale!

That’s what makes it raw honey—it hasn't been heated or ultra-filtered to remove the pollen. 🐝 Stop by and grab a bottle or two on your next visit!

🍂 Fall is starting to make an appearance! 🍁

Our first mums and fall plants have officially arrived, and we are loving this little transition into the new season at the front of the greenhouse! 🧡🌼

There are still many more fall plants on the way, so this is just the beginning—but we couldn’t resist sharing a little sneak peek. 👀🍂

💚 A HUGE Labor Day shoutout to our amazing team! 💚

Without this incredible group of people—and those who weren’t able to make it for picture day!—the garden center simply wouldn’t function. We are so grateful for every single person who has helped make this season what it is. 🌱

This year has required a LOT of adjustment, reorganization, learning, communication, and teamwork. It hasn’t always been easy, but seeing that hard work pay off has been so rewarding! We’ve made progress on big projects, grown in so many areas, and, most importantly, had an absolutely amazing season. And we’re not even done yet! 💪🌿

As the season starts to slow down, some of our team members have headed back to school, home to Mexico, or back to their everyday lives. While we’re excited for what’s next for everyone, we’re already looking forward to the day we can all be back together again next spring. 🥹💚

Thank you, team, for all that you do. We truly couldn’t do this without you! 🌻
