Smith & Wesson Pre-10, made in 1944.
This revolver was obviously loved and cared for at some point in its life, nobody puts high-dollar rosewood grips on a gun they don’t care about. Somewhere along the way it was neglected, and when it came in I honestly thought it might be past saving.
Maybe I should have torched it and thrown it in the scrap pile. Even after boiling and carding it down 3x times, it still looks rough. Sure, I could spend a lot more time polishing and refinishing it to make it look a little prettier, but there’s no hiding what it has been through, and I didn’t want to erase its story.
The amazing part is inside. The internals are excellent. The bore is excellent. All six chambers cleaned up to perfection. So mechanically, it’s incredibly solid.
After a full teardown, rust removal, inspection, lubrication, timing check, and function testing, it’s back to being a working revolver again instead of scrap.
And yes, it was test fired and worked perfectly.
