We launched our homeschool year off with a day at the farm. The kids traveled around to different stations and learned about farm life, animal care, blacksmithing, how to make rope, and more. Elijah said something I thought was profound. He said, “Mom, I don’t think kids who live on farms need screens. This work is really satisfying.”

The kids learned some about farm life that day, but that seed that was planted, that experience, where the kids enjoyed simple things like a rope swings and found satisfaction in farm chores, was a great lesson learned for day one. 

By the way, only a few of our farm life crossbody bags remain! I couldn’t talk about farm life and not think about Eva’s unique purse design. 💛

Carry Hope by Eva has been hanging out patiently, waiting for Mom to have a little attention to spare. 😂💕 Between getting ready for school and all the other things filling up August, there simply hasn’t been time for everything. The business wheels haven’t exactly been churning lately.

But even when we aren’t doing much to make things happen, God still does.

A few purses have sold, and that meant Eva had some money to give. ❤️

One of the things at the heart of Carry Hope has always been teaching our kids that what comes into our hands isn’t only for us. So we get to send another little donation to help care for orphans in Bangladesh.

There is a young man there whom I am incredibly proud of. He works so hard to care for these children, and they are currently working toward a huge project—building an orphanage where these kids can have a safe place to call home.

Last night, I had the sweet opportunity to say hello to some of the children over video and pray over them. Suddenly, something as simple as selling a purse here in Illinois was connected to children on the other side of the world. 🌎❤️

This is what we want Carry Hope to teach our kids.

We may not be able to change everything, but we can use what is already in our hands. We can be the hands and feet of Jesus to the people He puts in front of us. And sometimes something that feels small to us can have an impact that reaches much farther than we will ever see on this side of eternity.

If you would like to add something to the donation we are sending, you are welcome to send it through any of my usual payment methods and simply write “ORPHANS” in the note. I’ll make sure 100% of what you give is added to what we send.

It doesn’t have to be a large amount. For the cost of one meal out, we can help care for a child, contribute toward a safe place for these children to live, and remind them that people thousands of miles away see them, love them, and are praying for them.

This is why we Carry Hope. 💕🌎

A few highlights from our week with Carry Hope by Eva and Creative Courage by Elijah. ❤️

Earlier this week, we visited some dear friends who have been walking a very hard road since my friend’s husband was paralyzed after a fall more than a year ago. We got to celebrate some of his newest “tricks,” including moving his hand, shaking hands, and giving high fives. We went hoping to encourage them, but after we prayed for them, they immediately turned around and prayed for us. ❤️

Behind the rehab facility were fruit trees, which felt like such a beautiful reminder that difficult seasons aren’t necessarily barren seasons. God can still be growing something, even there.

Then, on another day, we randomly stopped at a park and pulled up just in time for a community night, hot dogs, ice cream, and a Black Hawk helicopter taking off. 😂 Sometimes the surprises are hard, but sometimes the blessings surprise us too.

And on another day, we taped some of the kids’ kindness and courage cards around a park, hoping they would land in front of exactly the person who needed one.

That’s really what we’re learning together: pay attention. Look for what God is doing. Carry hope. Create courage. Leave a little encouragement wherever you go.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace…” Romans 15:13 ❤️

This week reminded me that hope can show up in so many different ways—in a new movement, a prayer, a fruit tree, an unexpected adventure, or a little note left for a stranger.

Sometimes we’re looking for the big thing when God is already meeting us in all the small ones.

Keep your eyes open. Keep choosing hope. And leave a little more light behind you wherever you go. ❤️

When the kids are in charge of the marketing… 😂

Apparently the official strategy tonight was:

Well… I can’t argue with that logic. 🤣
