🇺🇸 A Moment We’ll Never Forget at Outta The Ashes 🇺🇸
One of the greatest blessings of working at Outta The Ashes is that every day brings a new story—and sometimes, a story that touches your heart forever.
Today , a young boy walked into our store with his parents and immediately fell in love with our military window display. He came to the counter and asked if the beret from the display was for sale. I explained that it wasn’t—it belonged to my husband from his military service.
The look on his face said it all.
As we talked, he shared his admiration for the military, and how he wanted to be an astronaut, and his parents asked about my experiences as a military wife and my husband’s military career. After speaking with them for nearly 20 minutes, I stepped away and called my husband to see if he happened to have another beret.
He didn’t.
But then he said something I’ll never forget:
“Give it to him. I hope it inspires him to serve his country one day, and always remember to respect the beret and those who have served.”
With tears in my eyes, I walked over to the window, removed the beret from the mannequin, and handed it to the young boy. It was such an emotional moment that I could barely repeat my husband’s words.
The young boy was speechless. His parents were in tears. Our cashier was emotional. Other customers stopped to watch. There wasn’t a dry eye in sight.
Afterward, another customer approached me and said, “That was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen.”
Moments like these remind us that sometimes the most valuable things aren’t the items we sell—they’re the connections we make, the stories we share, and the kindness we pass on.
You truly never know what might happen when you walk through the doors of Outta The Ashes. ❤️
P.S. If anyone has a beret that we could borrow through the end of August to temporarily replace this one for our mannequin, we would truly appreciate it!
