✨ Lisianthus season is in full swing! We kept the subscription tiny this year and it sold out fast. I’m so sorry if you missed it.

Truth is, the gardens are almost unworkable right now, and I’m at a real turning point. Building new beds means serious funding. Over 370 linear feet of tall beds, an actual fence (we don’t have one and everything is ravaged by deer and rabbits, new irrigation that doesn’t flood and explode every other day, hoops that don’t bend, pest control solutions for the infestations that have made themselves at home, and more dirt than I want to accept. The space is tricky for machinery, so it requires a lot of manual labor (a bajillion wheelbarrow trips), which makes it a genuinely big and scary investment.

If I want a spring subscription, the new garden needs to be built by fall, with enough time to get thousands of bulbs in the ground. I’ve already ordered some. But there are thousands more I haven’t, because I genuinely can’t make up my mind yet.

So that’s where I’m at! Hanging out on denial and indecisive island, juggling all the things, and trying to figure how to make them all work! 🫠💐

Yesterday Whiskey had his last doggy snore as I held him in my arms. He went peacefully, comfortable, cuddled, and with a full belly of BJs rotisserie chicken. I’ve been preparing for this, but it’s much harder than I imagined.

16 years.

I haven’t been an adult without Whiskey. I haven’t been a wife or a mother without Whiskey. He was my constant shadow, the most forgiving; my best buddy through the biggest moments of my life - law school, marriage (he asked my husband on our first date), the passing of my grandparents, the birth of my two children, many moves, trips, and people in and out of my life.

In moments I felt truly alone, I never was.
I know the pain will dull, but I don’t think I’ll ever stop hearing his feet on the hardwood floor.

Here’s to my first furry love, Whiskey. 💔

To our DC customers: Poppy Jar wouldn’t exist without you. You were with us through the early days of starting our seeds on top of our laundry machine in Georgetown, and bought the flowers we tugged on our igloo cooler. You stuck with us through Covid, long distance deliveries, and shared our flowers with family, friends, and clients. You allowed this artistically stifled lawyer to have a creative outlet, and helped me grow Poppy Jar into something I never expected. I’m forever grateful for your support.

Getting our flowers to you since our move to the eastern shore has been logistically tricky. We’d love to keep doing it, but unfortunately, we need to take a step back as our kids and life needs more of our time. Consequently, we’ve made the difficult decision to keep our subscription local and no longer offer delivery to the DMV.

We hope you continue to support us from across the bridge, and PLEASE let us know when you’re headed out this way for a trip! (Which you should do!)

We have something else we’re cooking up that might just allow us to see each other again, so don’t go away completely. 💕
