GOD GIVES YOU NEW RICH ROBES
I hear the Spirit saying that this is a season where God is directly addressing accusation, condemnation and shame. God is stepping into situations where the enemy has tried to speak against identity, calling and standing.

God says that He Himself is rebuking the accuser. The Lord is intervening and silencing every voice that has risen to accuse you. The blood of Jesus is silencing every accusation in this hour!

“And the LORD said to Satan, ‘The LORD rebuke you, Satan! The LORD who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you!’ ” Zechariah 3:2

I hear the Spirit saying that you are chosen and because you are chosen, accusation has no authority to remain. God is making it clear that you are not rejected, discarded or disqualified. No matter how much the enemy has made you feel worthless, God says you are His, nothing shall separate you from His love!

God says that you have been pulled out of danger and destruction. You were preserved when the enemy expected loss. Through the fire 🔥 He has shaped you!

“Is this not a brand plucked from the fire?”
Zechariah 3:2

I hear the Spirit saying that God is now removing garments that never belonged to you. These garments include accusation, shame, guilt, condemnation and every false label that was placed on you during previous seasons.

“Then He answered and spoke to those who stood before Him, saying, ‘Take away the filthy garments from him.’ ”
Zechariah 3:4

God speaks to the angel 😇 to take away every unworthy garment… He is taking them off entirely. He is separating you from every record that was used against you. Everything that separated you from Him, He is claiming you back into the new covenant… into oneness with Him!

God says that He has removed what disqualified you and is now replacing it with what establishes you.

“ ‘See, I have removed your iniquity from you, and I will clothe you with rich robes.’ ”
Zechariah 3:4

I hear the Spirit saying that this is a season of visible restoration. God is not only clearing your record, but He is also restoring honor, authority and identity.
God says that He is placing a new covering on you. He is giving you clarity of mind, renewed authority and restored dignity.

“And I said, ‘Let them put a clean turban on his head.’ So they put a clean turban on his head, and they put the clothes on him.”
Zechariah 3:5

Watch and see how God changes how you stand. Watch and see how He changes how you are seen. Watch and see how He repositions you publicly and spiritually.

I hear the Spirit saying that heaven is standing by to enforce this change.

“And the Angel of the LORD stood by.”
Zechariah 3:5

This confirms that what God is doing is supervised, protected and sealed. The accuser has been rebuked. The old garments have been removed. New garments have been placed upon you.

This is the word of the Lord for this season.

This is one of my favorite hymns, and the second line is "I want to follow Jesus." In the common lectionary, today is the fast of St. John the Evangelist. Tradition always pictures this Apostle as a young man, and if he lived into the second century, or close to it, he must have been pretty young when he joined his brother James to follow Jesus. Jesus tells us that we must become as little children with their innocence and ability to believe if we want to enter eternal life with him. This is such an appropriate feast to celebrate so soon after Christmas as this is a season that children of all ages enjoy. I know that my friends and I take a night every year before Christmas and go out to look at the lights on the homes in surrounding neighborhoods. And we are far, far, far away from being children! In the dark of winter, these truly symbolize the light of Christ coming into the world. Christ as our light shines on the path we are called to follow and also shows us the areas of darkness we need to eliminate if we are not going to stumble on that path. John talks about Christ as the light in both his gospel and his letters to remind us we need Jesus' guidance as we journey towards him and walk as children in his light.

I want to be closer to you, O Lord, my God. Give me the courage to follow your word and believe in all the good that you have given to those of us that struggle to comprehend. Help me to comprehend and I will live everyday like that gift that it is. I will do this as your son, Jesus Christ, showed me, and it is in his name that I pray. Amen.

In some countries, this is a day of gift giving. The carol, "Good King Wenceslas" talks upon looking out on the feast of Stephen and seeing a poor man who he decided to help on this very snowy night. For many of us tonight will be very snowy as well, and in the feet of St. Stephen, one of the original deacons who were commissioned to help the poor especially the widows and orphans, and the king who went out of his way to help a stranger, perhaps we can find a way to help others whether we know them or not. Is there someone who could use a helping hand? In this cold, is there a person who could use a coat or jacket you no longer use? Perhaps the nearest soup kitchen could use a helping hand or a donation. The best gift we can give is the gift of self. While so many people will be out exchanging gifts and looking for after-Christmas sales, what can we do to give the gift of self to someone? Maybe we need to visit a friend or relative we haven't seen in a while or make a call to that person in our lives that we've neglected. If it did snow, maybe a neighbor needs some help. If there are still leaves on the ground, maybe you could rake them. Perhaps some left overs would be enjoyed by the elderly man or woman who lives alone? Let's take some time on this Feast of Stephen to remember the importance of serving others, and find a way to do it.

It's amazing to think that the son of God came from a family that appeared to be so normal – a carpenter and his wife. Jesus' birth was also not what one would have expected for the son of God. He was born in a manger. But look at what came from Him. He grew to be Jesus Christ, and He fulfilled the Scriptures. We have eternal life because of this Savior, who did not appear to be one to the people around Him. Thank God for the knowledge and understanding you have of who Jesus Christ is.

We have been preparing for today for the past 4 weeks. Of course the stores and the media and the radio stations have been preparing for the past two or more months! Hopefully, we have been preparing to welcome Jesus into our hearts once more as we celebrate his birthday. Tomorrow, the Christmas music will end, the decorations will come down, and as every early morning paper deliverer knows, there will be trees on the sidewalk to be picked up. For us, we should still be celebrating, and we should still be celebrating for the next three weeks, until the Baptism of Jesus. Let us pray today, let us tell the story of Jesus' birth. Let us turn to him as the shepherds did praising God and telling all they met about this miraculous birth of a baby who would save the world. There is a children's video that explains Christmas to little children with both story and song. One of the songs that I particularly like speaks to us of the connection between Christmas and Easter. It speaks of how Good Friday and Easter are the reason for celebrating Christmas. Without the saving acts of Jesus, and his subsequent Resurrection and appearances to the disciples, this birth would have gone unnoticed as just another baby boy born in Bethlehem. So, enjoy the gifts, try to play the music for the rest of the week, let the tree stay up until Epiphany, let the wonder of the season surround you, and say a prayer of gratitude of this great gift.

God did not send His son to condemn us. God did the total opposite – He sent His son to save us from condemnation and eternal damnation. The reason why we can gladly say we are children of God, and that the salvation we have received is eternal, is because God gave His son up to pay the price so that we wouldn't have to. We will never find a love greater than this from anyone else.

Today we do the final shopping, wrap the last of the gifts, bake the last cookies or pies, prepare the meal for tomorrow, or if you're Italian, tonight. What are our plans for celebrating Jesus? Is going to church in your plans? Will you read the story of that first Christmas from the gospel of Luke? This is what religious educators call a "teachable moment." This is a time when children are open to hear the reason why we celebrate, to know that it's not about Santa Claus. Do they know the story of the real Saint Nicholas? Christmas has become so overly commercialized that we need to be current day prophets. This is the perfect time to tell our faith story, to pass on the reasons for our beliefs. It used to be that churches would be full on Christmas morning or at Christmas pageants on Christmas Eve or at midnight services. Why have Christians stopped practicing their faith even on Christmas? I guess I don't understand. Inviting a girl to midnight services was a sign that their dating was getting serious. Families shared this special time together. I hope that there are still families that do this. Perhaps I will see you tonight. Have a blessed Christmas.

Dec 23 | Luke 23

This chapter is heavy with sorrow, yet it is full of truth about God’s heart for us. Jesus stands before rulers, faces false accusations, and is mocked by the very people He came to save. The weight of the cross presses upon Him, and yet, even in the midst of injustice and suffering, He does not strike back. He prays, He forgives, and He shows love—reminding us that God’s heart is bigger than our pain.

On the cross, Jesus speaks words of mercy: “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” Even as He suffers, His focus is not on revenge but on redemption. And He promises hope to a repentant thief: a life beyond this moment, a paradise prepared for those who turn to Him.

This chapter reminds us that suffering is real. Life can feel unfair, lonely, and painful. People can hurt us, misunderstand us, or even betray us. But God’s love is still at work. Jesus shows us that even in the darkest moments, His love reaches farther than our fear and our pain. Even when the world fails, He is faithful.

Take a moment today to remember: when life feels heavy, God is near. His love forgives, restores, and carries you through. The story doesn’t end at the cross.. it begins there. His birth was the promise; His death was the fulfillment. The tiny hands in the manger would one day stretch wide on a cross, and through that act, hope was made real. The joy of the manger led to the hope of the cross, and that same love is still reaching for you today, ready to redeem, heal, and restore even the hardest moments of your life. 🙌🏻🤍
