The time has come to say see ya later 😢…

After much consideration, we’re laying Uptown Funk Market to rest. I hope to host events in the future, but I can’t promise that right now. This isn’t an easy decision, please believe me, it’s been incredibly difficult. I’m doing what’s best for me, though it comes with great sadness. We’ve made magic & had so much fun. I’m so grateful for this community & honored to have been granted the opportunity & trust.

But if I’m being real, it’s been hard! Huge props to those doing similar work & sustaining it. It takes great strength & dedication. This market has been a huge responsibility that I’ve never taken lightly, & I can’t continue to show up with the dedication & focus that y’all deserve. I’m entering a season of slowing down & giving myself space. I’m blessed to be doing what I love full time (horticulture) & that this is enough for now. I’ve experienced lots of grief in the past few years that needs tending to. I need to make art & play.

My intention with this market was to cultivate community & uplift people. Honestly, I also needed to prove to myself & the world that I could do it. I can confidently say I’ve achieved this. This experience has shown me that when you feel alone or uninspired, or that you’ve met everyone in the creative scene, there are still so many amazing, talented people out there who are ready to collaborate with & love you. And you must realize that I’m not solely responsible for this magic we’ve created. It’s the vendors & artists, it’s Expectations & attendees, & it is Samir & his family.

I can’t say enough great things about Samir & his family. They’re the best hosts I could’ve worked with. They have huge hearts & work so hard. They’re my family, & I’m sure you feel this too. We’re family! And luckily for you, Samir is going to continue to host Second Saturday markets. I have full faith that they’ll keep crushing it & I look forward to what y’all create. You can apply to their markets through the new link in our bio. Samir also asked me to share his # 727-400-5113 for those wanting to continue to collaborate. Please support & follow Expectations gallery / Retrospect for updates!

Lots o love,
Maissie
