Hear the curated selections of an original from the disco era!

Our first Thursday outing since Jimpster… a night of disco with NYC legend and past guest Victor Rosado celebrating the launch of a new monthly Thursday at Easy Tiger with our resident Austen van der Bleek.

An alternative to the trend of disco as an aesthetic gimmick and instead presented authentically as the music and culture it was and remains.

This is not a throwback or commercial night, it’s an underground disco party, with the launch featuring a figure that was actually there, often filling in for David Mancuso at The Loft and Larry Levan at the Paradise Garage, as well as guesting at Studio 54. You can expect some iconic classics, obscure/overlooked gems, and new productions that do justice to the original spirit.

Don’t dress up, dress down for comfort and dancing. There’s no cover, just bring an open mind and loose limbs.

Be there and earn your stripes in a style of music that was the soundtrack to a social and countercultural revolution.

A new night of authentic disco in St. Pete is launching soon in September, Tiger Stripes, at Easy Tiger — monthly every first Thursday.

To kick things off appropriately, I've invited one of the figures that was actually there, and is as close to the source as you can get these days, Victor Rosado. He was a regular at both the Paradise Garage, with Larry Levan, and The Loft, with David Mancuso, in addition to a guest DJ at Studio 54.

It's been my pleasure to get to know him over the last few years, sharing records through digging together and purchasing some of his collection.

Recently, I've been pulling some new dance music releases for him through Tangible Record Shop. It's always rewarding when someone with his music knowledge and taste appreciates what I've been curating over there.

A little flashback to Earth Night last April with Lynn Hawkins.

Lynn is a lifelong Chicago house head and transplant. Already an avid radio show presenter with her Sound Summit radio, she's been practicing on industry standard equipment, taking some lessons, buying records from Tangible Record Shop, and can often be found on the dance floor soaking up some of the legendary DJs that have come through like Jimpster, Roy Davis Jr., and Victor Rosado.

This is exactly the kind of candidate we enjoy providing space for at the studio so we can get more dedicated people that love and know the music from in front of the speakers to also sharing behind the decks. You can catch her tonight at Bar Mezzo from 9pm–1am.

Rent parties are a tradition of informal social gatherings created in 1920s Harlem by the African American working class. By the 1970s, David Mancuso had blended this concept with downtown loft living, psychedelic counterculture, and audiophile sound, giving us The Loft parties, which helped pioneer modern underground dance culture.

With both instances, these were a response to their conditions, offering a means to communally eat, dance, and get away from everyday hardships and discrimination. The Loft provided a diverse environment that was racially, sexually, and economically mixed, while offering necessary sanctuary to marginalized individuals.

While Suite E Studios is not somewhere any individual lays their head, it is a space where minds meet, providing a home to creatives, musicians, artists, writers, painters, and more. It was founded on the principle that we need alternative spaces dedicated to creation and that we all benefit from the communal pooling together of resources.

Not immune to the pressure of unexpected rise in rents and expenses ourselves, please join us Friday for our own take on a rent party with one of our founders, Austen van der Bleek, serving as musical host for the evening.

Early check-in (9pm) and late check out (TBD) encouraged.

A night of selections from our curator/buyer!

It’s been almost half a decade since I had a Friday off I knew about in advance, so taking this opportunity to do something I’ve been meaning to for a while now…

The Suite is a rent party and an ode to all the The’s that came before: Loft, Gallery, Garage, Choice… but completely different and our own way, of course.

Suggested $10 advance contribution / $20 day of. Reach out to me with your preferred method of contribution. No one turned away for lack of funds. Bring your own comforts.

Most of the time I’m playing underground parties, I’m warming up the room, something I enjoy doing and a responsibility I take seriously, holding quite a bit in reserve energy-wise for the guest. To play a lengthy, all night set like I do at my regular residencies, but with the total freedom of our loft-style creative home, will be a treat.

In collaboration with Suite E Studios, we host a monthly Bring Your Own Vinyl Night for record collectors, vinyl enthusiasts, and curious ears on second Tuesdays called Hear Me Out.

On these nights the studio transforms into an intimate and inviting vinyl listening lounge where a community of music lovers and their found sounds get to be shared, and heard, in their full glory.

Guests are welcome to bring records from their collections to be played over the studio's sound system, which was designed specifically for warm, extended listening, revealing previously hidden details in their favorite music.

Your cherished records and eclectic music taste deserve more attention, so — hear me out.

- All levels of vinyl lovers or listeners are welcome to participate.
- Eclectic sounds encouraged.
- Sign up sheet is first come, first serve and will begin at 6PM.

Tuesdays are our neighbor Daddy Kool's "Used Day" where they offer 15% off used records. We encourage you to go have a dig through their extensive bins and bring your finds over after.

Our specially curated bins are available to shop from during the event.

Those without their own vinyl can pull discoveries from a small selection of St. Pete DJ Austen van der Bleek's personal listening collection as well.
