Show us your shelfie!

We’ve had a few people tell us that they wish their bookshelves were better/fuller/prettier/organized and we believe that to have books as companions is good enough.

So take a shelfie, whether it’s a few heirloom books, your current TBR pile, or an entire library room and show us what you’re working with! If you feel so inclined, leave a few words about your books.

Good news! The apartment above our bookstore is now reservable on AirBNB! It’s a 2200 square foot, 3BR, 2.5BA complete apartment. Yes, it has a library. The books are even inventoried in the bookstore.

We like tall shelves and we cannot lie. Market Street Books occupies a 102 year old building with 12 foot ceilings; we needed to build 8 foot tall shelves in order to fill the space aesthetically.

Rhett’s 6’4” so it isn’t a problem for him.

Debra is…not.

So we have been searching for a step ladder or step stool for those hard-to-reach places. We found it! It’s a three-step 90° spiral ladder with a built-in staff for safety and we think it’s perfect.

Every time the idea of a rolling ladder is mentioned, we consider that most of our customers have seen Belle in The Beast’s library and shudder at the liability.

Fair warning: I will not tolerate willful rudeness, cruelty, gossip, insults, or bullying behavior toward people. If it seems unintentional, I’ll try to gently steer the person back to civility (which is NOT the way I once was.)

A guest today, in my opinion, disparaged a person whom we both know. I asked that they use different language.

She said “You don’t have to insult me.”
“That was not my intention.”
“Well, I’m insulted.”
“I regret that.”
“Fine. I’m leaving.”
“Thank you for coming in.”

So you know.

Wishing my parents a happy Gotcha Day! Tuesday, July 25th 1972. “Gone with the Wind” was the Monday Night Movie as they prepared for the next day and that’s why they named me Rhett. I was still putting “Rhett Butler Hendrickson” on my schoolwork in first grade.

These were my first two Dr. Seuss books.
