Join the Friends of Allegany and the Park as they co-host the 15th Annual I Love my Park Day Saturday May 2nd 2026 9am at the Beehunter picnic shelter.
Please pre-register at the link below.
The Friends have started a tradition of inviting the other park NPOs to have display booths at the event; check them out.
The Friends will be providing a free lunch for registered volunteers and will be raffling off five door prizes at the end of the event:
1. Weekend stay at a primitive cabin of your choice courtesy of the Friends of Allegany.
2. Empire State Park Pass good for one year at date of issuance courtesy of the Friends of Allegany.
3. $50 gift certificate courtesy of Ballard’s Camping Center and Joe Ruff located at 5849 Southwestern Blvd. Hamburg.
4. $50 gift certificate to the Park Restaraunt courtesy of the Friends of Allegany.
5. $25 gift certificate courtesy of Allegany Hospitality, the Park’s concessionaires.
You must be registered, present and 18 or older for the raffle.

Registration for I Love my Park Day has begun.
This will be the 12th year the Friends will be providing a free Sahlen’s hot dog lunch and our third year of inviting the other park NPOs to be represented at the event.
This year the Friends will have five door prizes:
1. Weekend stay at a primitive cabin of your choice from the Friends of ASP.
2. Empire State Park Pass from the Friends of ASP.
3. $50 gift certificate for the park stores from the Friends of ASP.
4. $50 gift certificate for Ballard’s Camping Center in Hamburg (thank you Joe Ruff).
5. $25 gift certificate for the park’s shops or restaraunt courtesy of Allegany Hospitality.
You must be a registered volunteer and at least 18 years old to receive a raffle ticket for the door prizes.

Good afternoon Friends,
This is a rare Sunday post.

At the end of 2026 my (Paul Crawford’s) position as the President, Joe Eberle’s position as Vice President and John Luby’s position as Treasurer of the Friends of Allegany State Park Inc. will be vacated.

Secretary Barb Conklin, Membership Chairperson Kelly McCoy, board members Joe Ruff and John Domres Jr. will remain. They all know the drill or will be trained by the end of this year.

John Luby and myself are two of eight founding members. We will have 14 years in each, me as President and John as a board member or as the current Treasurer.
Before that myself and John were active in the ASP Historical Society four years where I again I’ve been serving on the board for the past three. Joe has been a board member or officer for the past eight years. Before that he has been volunteering with our organization since its inception.

It has been an honor, a joy and a challenge. Our little grass-roots experiment has turned the Friends into one the, if not THE largest all-volunteer Friends groups out of the roughly 80 registered Friends groups with the state.

We need someone to carry the torches.

Our bylaws, based on NYS NPO laws, state that we only need a President, Treasurer and Secretary to continue on as a NYS NPO Corporation. Anyone stepping up to the plate would have far more (experienced board members) to work with than that.

Although we are stepping down, we will not be stepping away. We plan on helping our replacements to assure our legacy continues.

We’ve developed a great set of bylaws shaped by events over the past thirteen years. In addition our sets of Standard Operating Procedures are guides for the next generation.

If you are interested in any of these positions please contact us. We’d like to immediately integrate you in our processes to give you a running start.

Your new/fresh ideas can propel the organization in any direction the new board would like to take.

This is a great opportunity to give back to the park that has given so much to so many.

We still have eleven months to go but that’ll come quickly.

Lastly I/we’d like to thank everyone that made this possible. From the leaders to the volunteers to the donors and grant providers, we couldn’t have done it without you.

Our motto “Together we can make a difference” rings of no truer words.
