🩷A LITTLE FACEBOOK HEADS-UP 🩷

We wanted to explain something in case you’ve noticed we haven’t been sharing Thriftwood posts from our personal pages or to local groups quite as much lately.

Both of our personal accounts, along with our business account, currently have a temporary Facebook restriction that limits things like joining groups and sharing posts. We’ve completed the identity-verification steps Facebook asked us to complete, and our accounts otherwise show as being in good standing, but the sharing restriction is still in place for now (with an 11/3 expiration date😔).

For a brand-new little business like ours, that definitely makes getting the word out and helping people find us a little harder.

So we’re asking a small favor from our Thriftwood friends. 🩷

If you see one of our posts that you think your friends would enjoy, or that would be appropriate for a local community group you’re a part of, we’d be incredibly grateful if you shared it.

No need to spam anybody or share everything we post. 😂 Just anything you genuinely think someone else might enjoy seeing.

THRIFTWOOD CONFESSIONS 😂

Okay, we want to know…

What is something you got rid of years ago that you would LOVE to have back now?

A concert tee?
Your favorite pair of jeans?
A purse you carried everywhere?
A childhood toy?
A ridiculous jacket you thought was hideous at the time but would absolutely wear now? 😂

I’ll go first.

About 10+ years ago, I finally cleaned out a bunch of clothes I had been hanging onto from the early 90s through the early 2000s.

They had been sitting in my attic for years, taking up space, and I figured, “I’m never going to wear these again. It’s time.”

So off they went.

And now?

I could cry. 😭

That pile included a darling 90s slip dress that still had the tags on it because I always intended to wear it and somehow never did.

My very first Coach bag.

An adorable Tommy Hilfiger dress with a matching bag that I practically lived in.

And probably a bunch of other things I’d now give anything to dig back out of a box.

The funny part is that I always dreamed about having my own store one day. I guess I just didn’t quite believe in myself enough back then to think, “Hey… maybe I should hang onto all this stuff because someday I might actually need it for that store.”🙄

So yes, apparently one of my biggest thrift-store regrets is donating the exact kind of stuff I now spend my time hunting for. Life is funny like that.

I NEVER REALLY PLANNED ON SELLING VINTAGE CHILDREN’S CLOTHES…🩷

Honestly, it just wasn’t something I ever actively sought out for Thriftwood.

But then I started coming across these precious little pieces.

Tiny dresses. Little shirts. Sweet outfits that clearly had a life before they ever found their way to us.

And suddenly I couldn’t stop thinking about the children who once wore them.

The birthday parties they may have gone to.
The holidays they celebrated in them.
The family photos they appeared in.
The friends they played with.
The places they went.

Some of these little outfits may have been worn decades ago by people who are now grandparents or great-grandparents. Some may have belonged to someone who is no longer here at all.

And somehow that makes them feel even more special.

They aren’t just old clothes.

They’re tiny pieces of somebody’s story. 🩷🩵

So even though vintage children’s clothing was never part of the original Thriftwood plan, I guess it is now. Because these little pieces deserve a second chance too.🥹

A chance to be worn again. Loved again. Photographed again. Maybe even tucked away someday by another family who can’t quite bring themselves to let them go.

And honestly… how could I pass that up? 🥹🩷

MEET THE WRITER BEHIND THE REGISTER 📚❤️

So . . . apparently I married an author. A few years ago, Steve discovered a talent he didn’t even know he had.

Turns out, my husband can write. Like… really write.😳

Since then, he’s written nine books, and yes, I may be a little biased, but I happen to think they’re pretty amazing.

Our little bookshop inside Thriftwood, The Hallway Bookery, doesn’t officially launch until next month, but we just got a shipment of Steve’s books in and they’re now proudly displayed near the register.

So if you stop in, take a look!

And if you have questions about them, by all means, ask Steve.

Just make sure you have some extra time. 😂

Because if there’s one thing Steve loves almost as much as writing his books, it’s talking about his books.

He’ll happily tell you about the stories, the characters, what inspired them, which one you should start with… and probably several things you didn’t even ask. 🤣

And if you’d like, he can even sign one for you.

🩷CAN WE BRAG ABOUT OUR NEIGHBORS FOR A MINUTE? 🩷

One of the things we’ve loved most about opening Thriftwood has been becoming part of the downtown Salem community.

We truly could not ask for better neighbors.

Sew Quilty, Kravitz Deli, Totally 80’s Ice Cream, Coaches, Crooked Tree Studio and Quaker Steak & L**e have all made this little corner of downtown feel like home, and we’re incredibly lucky to be surrounded by such wonderful local businesses.

And when we manage to escape Thriftwood long enough to wander around ourselves, we have plenty of other favorites too.

Kast Iron Soda Works, Ezio’s Italian Restaurant, The Rumpled Queen, State Street Records, The Foundry, Praves Craves Candy & Creamery, Delight on Broadway, BoneShakers, Mike’s Penn Grille … and yes, we realize an alarming percentage of this list involves food. 😂 Steve and I are both certified foodies. We make no apologies.

There are also so many places we haven’t gotten to yet but absolutely want to, including The Broadway Exchange, The Odd Poppy, nature + nurture, Nevaeh Grace Boutique, Jessie’s Closet Boutique, Kidzone, Salem Fun Center, The OG, and so many more we’re forgetting right now.

And that’s really the point.

There is SO much tucked into our little downtown.

So the next time you come to Thriftwood, don’t just visit us. Park the car and wander.

Go somewhere you’ve never been. Grab lunch. Buy something from a local shop. Meet the people behind the businesses. Find a new favorite.

Because when you support one small business downtown, you’re helping make the whole downtown stronger. ❤️

✨ OKAY… I KNOW I’M ALWAYS SAYING “YOU HAVE TO CHECK OUT THE NEW ARRIVALS RACK…” ✨

Blah blah blah, new stuff, amazing finds, get here before it’s gone. 😂

BUT SERIOUSLY . . .

I honestly don’t know if I’ve ever been this excited about one batch of items we’ve brought into Thriftwood. 🤩

Every few pieces we priced, we were basically stopping and saying, “Wait… WHAT?!”

This batch has everything:

✨ A fabulous 1970s black, bronze & gold sequin tank

🌺 A true ’70s Tattoo of California floral fringe shawl
👗 A 1970s Calvin Klein denim dress that I am completely obsessed with
👞 Vintage Swedish Eskil clogs WITH the original owl-covered box
🩶 A Robert Rodriguez herringbone wool/cashmere trouser and jacket set
👜 Vintage leather and handmade ’70s handbags
🧣 Vintage scarves, kerchiefs and ties, including one from Moffett-Hone right here in Salem
✨ And enough Y2K goodness to make your old mall-walking self very happy 😂

And somehow… that still isn’t everything.

This is the kind of haul that reminds us exactly why we love doing this. One minute we’re researching a 1970s handmade handbag, the next we’re finding old Salem and Youngstown clothing-store labels, and five minutes later we’re debating whether there is such a thing as too many sequins.

There is not. Obviously. 😂✨
