Tomorrow, it begins!

For the month of October, we divide our store in half. Starting Thursday, October 1st, and continuing all the way through the month, please use the Derby Square entrance (next to Old Town Hall) to get your ice cream, chocolate, and other sweet treats, and the Front Street entrance (next to Jenni Stuart Fine Jewelry ) for retail shopping! This change in our layout allows us to better manage crowds, so the ice cream line can flow smoothly and swiftly and everyone can have a better shopping experience.

Thanks for being kind and patient as we (and all of Salem) handle the huge influx of visitors that we see this time of year! Happy Haunted Happenings Season!

Today is Mabon, the fall equinox, when we balance between the edges of light and dark a moment before the wheel tips toward winter. Days are shorter now; the harvest is gathered in. Abruptly, in our northern latitudes, the chill is in the air. Persephone begins her journey to the underworld, and Demeter's season of abundance is undercut with grief. This is a moment when celebration meets reflection, when we take time to rejoice in what we've achieved and lay to rest the attempts that did not bear fruit. What are you celebrating, this season of gathering in?

As with all harvest festivals, we are reminded to share the harvest, that the gleanings of the field should be returned to the community to feed those in need. In our North Shore community, The Salem Pantry works year round to distribute the harvest so that all can be fed, and you can make a donation to support their work at https://thesalempantry.org/

A few days ago we were honored by a visit from Salem's Poet Laureate, J.D. Scrimgeour! "Pieces of Salem: An Anthology of Salem Voices," a book produced as part of the Salem 400+ celebrations and edited by Poet Laureate Scrimgeour, is being released into the world today – congratulations to the editor and all the contributors!

The poet laureate also brought us copies of his own book, "Poet in High Street Park." Find both volumes on our shelves!
